How to Raise a Unique and Individual Child

Raising a non-conformist child- It's many parents' dream. Children will be much happier if they are taught that their differences are what make them so special, and that conforming is a waste of time. I think everyone has the potential for creativity and uniqueness, some kids just lose the skills after deciding to conform to the "norm".Here are some methods ensure your children grow up to be responsible, unique, non-conforming individuals:-Don't force a specific religion on your child. Encourage your child's natural curiosity by visiting and learning about many places and modes of worship.-Don't compare your child to others ("Why can't you be more like so-and-so?"). Being compared to others gives everyone an ugly sense of inferiority, and comparing your child to other, "better" peers is like telling your child to just follow everyone else's example.
-Be a non-conformist yourself. Set a good example of free and individual living and you'll get results.-Teach your children the value of spontaneity. Take random trips just for fun, explore little known trails, and often do the unexpected.-Help your child experience a variety of cultures and social situations to teach your child how wonderful and essential diversity is.-Educate your child on sex, drugs, and other risks so your expressive child is aware of these practices. Some young people perceive sex and drugs as non-conformist behavior, so clearly communicate to your child that he/she can be a unique individual without participating in these potentially risky practices. At the very least, teach your child about birth control and the consequences of drug use.-Convey to your child that breaking certain safety rules is not being non-conformist, it's just being stupid. Shoplifting, car-surfing, and binge drinking are often perceived as rebellious and non-conformist in the world of teenagers. Teach your child early on the difference between individuality and stupidity.-Encourage your child to try new things and meet new people just for fun. Dabble in different hobbies and clubs to discover new passions.-Try to have your child participate in a study abroad program or host a foreign exchange student to get a priceless experience on what the non-American life is really like. A close-quarters cultural experience like living with people from another country is priceless, and will teach your child much about the world outside their country.-Encourage your child to participate in art, dance, and other self-expression programs.Try out a few or all of these methods and I guarantee your child will be more likely to grow up and be a worldly, unique individual.
