The Pixie's Predicament

Ever greater was my enjoyment of playing tricks on humans. Each time I bested one, I would start planning my next lighthearted hoax. Thus went my days, I'd plan, I'd orchestrate, and I triumphed...that was until he came along. The little boy with an uncanny knack for finding me.

I wasn't supposed to be seen, my mother had told me a thousand times. But I am only six decades old and still want to have fun. I would procure the items needed for my deceptions from the local houses and gardens. It was during one of these procurement trips that he had first seen me. I was always careful to stay out of sight but he had been so quiet sitting there. It was as if he were waiting for me. Had he seen me before?

"Hello?" he had said in his gentlest voice

I stopped in my tracks.

I thought "Maybe if I don't move he'll think it was his imagination."

"Hello, can you hear me?" he said

Slowly I nodded "Yes, I can hear you. How did you find me?"

"I saw you last week." he replied "You were in my garden; I've been waiting ever since."

"I'm not supposed to be seen, my mother says humans will hurt us but I don't think that's true. You wouldn't hurt me, would you?"

"No! I just wanted to see you again." was his heartfelt response.

After that I tried to be more prudent but everywhere I went this little boy turned up. In the garden where I lived, in the neighboring garden, wherever I went there he would be. I heard him talking one night, as I was laying the groundwork for yet another hoax, he was telling his mother about me. OH! What a predicament this would be! My mother will be livid! Would his mother believe him? Would she want him to show her? Would they go pixie hunting? OH! My mother was right! I should have been more prudent! Wait! His mother doesn't believe him, hehe. Predicament expired!
