Cardiovascular health risks continue to be a leading concern among adults. For many adults, the complications of cardiovascular disease begin with the risks associated wit high cholesterol. To ensure your cardiovascular health is protected, to some extent, it is important to seek regular medical evaluations that include a routine blood panel, and testing of your cholesterol levels.

In addition, depending on the LDL and HDL levels, your physician may prescription cholesterol-lowering drugs in an effort to gain control over your cholesterol levels again. When considering cholesterol-lowering drugs, ask your physician about those prescription drugs that can be utilized in a daily dose such as that offered in the drug known as Mevacor.

When prescribed Mevacor, in the management of atherosclerotic vascular disease and high cholesterol, your physician will generally begin your dose with a recommended evening administration of one tablet at 20 milligrams per dose. At no time should your daily dosing exceed 80 milligrams. To achieve the optimal results, your physician will gradually increase your levels of dosing throughout the weeks and months following your initial treatment, even dividing doses into two per day.

In patients who are sensitive to the ingredients of Mevacor, there are adverse health complications that may arise. In most cases, these side effects and complications will dissipate through the course of treatment. Most common side effects reported include developing of flatulence, onset of diarrhea, headache pain and nausea. In patients with compromised or suppressed liver function, the use of Mevacor should be carefully managed as there may be some degree of hepatic dysfunction.
