Smothered by a Kiss

The blame of this flame's dying,

Where do I lay it now?

On a love too weak

a will too strong

a want too great to endure?

Shall I turn to you and burn with a glance

the shell you're encased within

And will it crumble to blue ash

or thicken and grow,

toughen and strangle my heart?

You are theirs...your affaires l'amour

must be approved and never touch

the place inside

Where walls are like transparent draperies ,

gauzy and dreamlike.

I am free and we could have been so,

But you are sewn up by their lies and eaten alive by flattery

sweet as granulated sugar

and just as unfulfilling

to the soul.

So think of me and see me here

a woman different in her loving

who loved a man

She thought was different, too,

above the rest and yet apart.

A whispered goodbye - no lie, beloved.

Only a farewell in a monotone .

There is no fire left.

Even the strongest flame cannot endure
