There is a brand new show getting ready to open up at The Secret Rose Theatre (11246 Magnolia Blvd) in North Hollywood by the acclaimed local playwright Art Shulman entitled "The Rabbi & The Shiksa." Touted as a "poignant comedy-drama," this show is being produced in conjunction with Kaz Mata-Mura and Fire Rose Productions and will begin its run on Friday, February 8, 2008 and will go on for more than a month into the middle of March.

In case you couldn't guess there's some trouble brewing and it hums to the tune of scandal running "rampant" around the temple when an esteemed Rabbi Moses Persky finds the time to get involved with a very attractive and a very non-Jewish woman, also known colloquially as a shiksa.

Rabbi Persky is a widower and has been at Temple Judea for many years. As with anything of too long a duration, the good Rabbi has made himself a little too comfortable in his post. He takes positions on issues that some members of his congregation don't agree with and that is a problem when you're in such a delicate environment as the clergy.

So it's only fitting that when Rabbi meets the very appealing Theresa, there are problems right away. To begin with, Theresa isn't Jewish! She's a "shiksa", with her own very unusual spiritual beliefs. Despite themselves, the Rabbi and Theresa begin a romance. The press release puts it most plainly when it says that "when word spreads about the relationship, things around the temple will never be the same. Neither will the Rabbi, or the "shiksa"."

Secret Rose is very excited to have Mr. Shulman back in the house as his work has always been well received around town; now this story of "scandal, romance, duty, and true friendship" is getting ready to entertain the people of the Valley. This poignant little tale, which is a lot more common than any of us might like to believe, also serves as a meditation as we are able to see the twists and turns and see where good intentions fly out the window and leave only broken promises and broken homes.
