The book Born Standing Up by Steve Martin is a great book to read for anyone who is interested in celebrities or what it is like to be a celebrity. Steve Martin does a great job of writing about what it is like to be a stand up comic. In Born Standing Up you will read about what it was like for Steve Martin to make it to the top. Steve Martin worked hard and did his very best to please his audience.

Steve Martin has been entertaining since he was a young boy of ten when he landed his first real job selling brochures at the newly opened Disneyland theme park. His job grew eventually to being a magician at the Disney park.

Steve Martin does a fantastic job of writing this book about his life thus far. As you read the book you see that his life has not always been easy. He had a different childhood that was both good and bad.

Breaking into the entertainment field was a rough road. He worked hard and long to get where he eventually got in entertaining. His career was very important to him. Steve Martin gave himself until he was thirty years old to make it as a comedian. He had his challenges along the way but after many years of hard work Steve Martin made it as one of the top entertainers.

Steve shows in his book Born Standing Up that he truly loves to make people laugh. He learned a lot by trial and error at what his audience liked and disliked. He tried to please his audience the best he could.

Steve Martin loved to use props and he was called very visual at his comedy routine. He used many of his Disney acts along the way and he was able to refine them. Steve Martin used balloons in his act, the kind of balloons that you can shape into animals and hats. At the end of Steve's show he liked to take his audience out into the front of the theater and continues his routine as he left. Eventually his audience got too big to do that and he had to find another way to exit his performance.

If you ever wondered what it was like to be a big performer and make it to the top this is a must read book for you. Steve Martin does a fantastic job letting you know what it is like in his book Born Standing Up.

This is an excellent review. I agree with jcorn, most comedians are very intelligent and Steve Martin is no exception.

Also, one of the most pleasant surprises I had was watching him move from comedy to acting and handling many roles quite well, from Father of the Bride (the updated, contemporary remake of that Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Burton classic) to Parenthood. He is really quite versatile but I worry about him thinking so much and, perhaps, brooding a bit. Odd thing about comedians - they often come across very flat in interviews, even depressed.

I liked the book as well. It certainly wasn't what I expected from a comedian but then Steve Martin is a very unique personality and his intelligence radiates from the pages, usually.
