When our local Safeway store did a major remodel and had their Grand Re-Opening last weekend, my husband and I took the bait and checked out the store. They had sales as well as special cents off coupons, which prompted me to purchase a Safeway Select Verdi Supreme Pizza, in the grocers freezer section. They were on sale for 2 for $9.00, and I had a $1 off coupon, making the total cost only $3.50. I figured I couldn't go wrong at that price.Description
This pizza looks much like all the other frozen pizzas out there, except this one has the self-rising crust that is found on more expensive brand names. The box contains 37.2 ounces of frozen pizza, and the front states that it is made with Italian Sausage, Zesty Pepperoni, Roasted Green and Red Peppers, Roasted Onion, Black Olives and a Blend of Mozzarella, Asiago, Parmesan and Romano Cheeses.
The freshness date is easily found on the end flap, this box was good until April 22, 2008. When removed from the box, the pizza is vacuum sealed in a thick, clear plastic. It rests on a carboard circle, that keeps the crust from bending.
Cooking Instructions
Directions are given for both crisp or soft crust pizza. For crispy crust, you place the pizza directly on the center rack of your oven and cook for 20-25 minutes at 425 degrees. If you prefer the softer crust, you should place it on a cookie sheet and bake for 22-26 minutes at 400 degrees.
How Fattening Is This Pizza?
A serving size is 1/6 of this pizza, and has 360 calories, 14 grams of fat, 6 grams saturated fat, 30 mg cholesterol, and 910 grams of sodium.
