As with the celebration of most holidays children love to get their hands dirty and whip up a great craft. Their hard work results in a rewarding creative experiance that can also be educational. Often times smaller preschool aged children get pushed aside whilst older children get to particpate in the crafting experiance. The following are some amazingly simple crafts that every preschool aged child would love to get their hands on.

"Froot Loops" Valentine Heart

This adorable crafty valentine's heart is made merely of Froot loops and construction paper and is simple enough that any preschooler can handle this project. Fuel some inspiration by asking the children to choose only their favorite color, or ask them to make a design on their heart. This is a great activity to discuss all of the colors as well as to encourage any child to begin to count with small tangible objects such as the cereal.

Materials:

Two Pieces of Construction Paper per Child

Liquid or Gel Glue

Safety Scissors for Children

"Froot Loops" cereal in varying colors (you can buy a generic or off brand for this craft purpose)

Step 1: Cut out a heart shape on one of the pieces of construction paper. An adult may want to draw the heart onto the paper and allow the child to cut out the shape with their safety scissors, or an adult may assist the child with hand over hand help with the cutting in the event that they are struggling.

Step2: Glue the Heart shaped construction paper to the other piece of construction paper. Using two different colors of paper often results in a better looking end product.

Step 3: Allow the child to select colors of the cereal they like, or even encourage them to write out the first letter of their name in the cereal. As they apply the cereal to the paper show them how to put a dab of glue for each Froot Loop so everything stays put. Allow the heart and cereal to dry and this craft can be hung on the walls, or given as a gift for a sweet Valentine.
