Gaining muscle mass can be a challenge for a large number of people, especially for some guys as they tend to have faster metabolism. As a result, nutritional supplements are extremely popular with people who want to gain more muscle mass. While the companies and the magazines sponsored by them tout that their product WILL help people gain muscle mass, there's another group of people that strongly believe that supplements don't help with gaining muscle mass at all. So what is the truth? What is the relation between nutritional supplements and muscle mass gain?

There are two components that must work together to help you gain muscle mass. Exercise and nutrition. Generally one of the two, usually nutrition is left out and the person solely focuses on exercise. This is by far the leading cause of dissatisfaction with muscle gains. Exercise provides the necessary stimulus to grow, and nutrition is what actually adds the muscle. The necessary component in your diet that does this is protein. Protein is absolutely essential for the growth of your body. It's the building block of just about everything in you - your skin, your muscles, your brain...so on. You need to get adequate protein in your diet before you can gain a substantial amount of muscle mass.  You'll have to learn how to eat more and eat it properly. You want to eat six small meals through the day instead of 3 big meals. This provides constant fuel to your body so that it can grow and gain more muscle easily.

This is how to calculate the amount of protein to eat everyday:
If you weigh 165 lbs now, and want to gain more muscle:
165*0.8 = 132 - this is how many grams of protein you need each day to grow quickly. Never go over a ratio of over 1.2 because that can be toxic to your body.
When you've attained the desired weight and just want to maintain that weight, you can drop down to 0.4 times the grams of protein per pound of your body weight.

Takeaways
  • Nutrition is just as important, if not more important than exercise.
  • Remember to rest adequately or you'll hamper your muscle growth.
  • Protein is essential to muscle building.
Did You Know?
Muscle weighs more than fat, so you could be incredibly fit and weigh more than someone who's "overweight".

I started lifting at the age of 15. i was 190 pounds 15 years later i am 250 pounds of muscle small amount of fat around the stomach 38 inch waist,20 inch arms 20 inch calf 20 inch neck,. I started out using weight gainer and training and eating like an monster never touched any steroids. i don't lift as much maybe twice a week and i'm still the same size as 5 years ago. what the pro's don't tell people is that they started out skinny and couldn't gain a pound so they stuffed their selfs with carbs and protein and stayed on top of their weight gain. So to get big use weight gainers i used back then the 5500 weight gainer from GNC drank one an hour and a half before i workedout and one with in 45 minutes after i workedout. Make sure to take branch chain amino acids, L argintine, fish oil, glutamine take theses with breakfast and after workout .Drink atleast a half a gallon of water daily keeps muscles fool. Eat chicken, steak, brown rice, fish stew beef, broccoli, salads, peanuts,
