Would the idea of reparations be a bad idea? With the many advancement programs, laws, and opportunities for blacks to go to school and work, there still remains many individuals that cannot progress. No these are not the murderers, thugs, teenage mothers, drug dealers, "ghetto" and welfare women, the gangbangers or race card opportunists that are stereotypically synonymous with Blacks.

These are the working poor most affected by the legacies of slavery who hasn't committed any crime except for being born with dark skin. They cannot take advantage of these black advancement initiatives if they can't even read on a third grade level and fill out a basic job application. Most of these blacks are descendants of poor southern sharecroppers and these sharecroppers are descendants of slaves. Is there any compensation for these blacks?

While slavery can be traced as one of the many reasons for underachievement for some blacks this should not be a reason to not or try to progress. With so many advancement initiatives and scholarships for blacks some whites have audaciously expressed that they are the minorities and the ones oppressed in this country. I can only shake my head at such beliefs because they remain ignorant to what oppression really is. If they only knew what it was and how it feels to be discriminated for opportunity they wouldn't be rash to claim such a lifestyle.

The reluctance to offer an apology is not from intolerance of the past but due to still residual discord and envy with African Americans. African Americans have been feared of their power, abilities and strength since the beginning of the trade which is why there were forced to be oppressed and denigrated to keep from gaining independence to overthrow whites just as the Native Americans did before Africans were introduced. With their success above adversity and multiple contributions to science, medicine, and education currently and in the past, perhaps supremacists had reason to fear.

Well, it's 29 days this year and started as just a week (Carter Woodson), and really it's like six weeks because all of the MLK events are starting now .......... See, I just had to prove I could be defensive about SOMETHING ........ You have given me the highest respect (and insomnia) and I started with the first one and worked on up, so tis my last read of the evening. You sound young but I shouldn't assume; at any rate, best of luck in all of your endeavers. -- Mike
