The Asphodel, fills the plains of Hades,
And it makes Pluto proud to know,
It lives and thrives in the Greek underworld.
Tis the favorite food of his dead,
and served upon the most grotesque of shell,
It's planted near Greek graves,
so dark spirits can rest and feast a spell,
And now sacred to Persephone,
Forcefully taken to her death by Pluto,
which makes Ceres weep, and offer up diligent prayers,
when ever his path shadow falls upon the wicked, yellow asphodel.
Though also known as king's spear,
The asphodel does not protect, nor defend.
Many of the ancients fear and weep,
at the drop of the name,
the dreaded, the feared, that awful asphodel.
