As I was out for a run the other day, I swore I heard my deceased father telling me to "go home", and I thought I was probably nuts. I kept running in the same direction I had been going and I heard it a couple more times. I knew whos voice that was. I know it was my dads voice. He added, "your nuts". I was running in a steady downpour of rain, and I figured thats what he was referring to. Alot of people have said that I'm nuts for running in the rain. Other than other runners who know the peace you gain from it. So I continued on running in the same direction I had started out going, enjoyed my run in the rain and just chuckled at my dad's comments.

Then I took a right turn and headed in another direction. A direction wherein I could clearly see a very ominous storm moving in my direction. A storm complete with nice big bolts of very dangerous lightening. Ah, I now knew what my dad was trying to tell me, now that I was headed in the direction where I could see all of this in front of me. My back had been turned to it when I started out. We had some really rough unseasonably warm weather that day. We made the news that evening because of all the tornadoes that were being spawn from it. We actually had 2 tornadoes southeast of where I was running and there were severe weather updates continually going on, but with 8 kids, lots of laundry, and lots of life always going on at my house I rarely see television. I had been driving alot that day and had not turned on the radio in the car either, so I really wasn't aware of the severity of this weather. After seeing lightening bolt after lightening bolt in front of me....I had no doubt what my dad was talking about, so I cut my run short and headed for home. I thanked my dad for trying to give me a heads up even though I didn't seem to get it, until taking my right turn.

Fascinating piece. I've never heard my father do anything positive for me but I have heard the voices of other loved ones in my head. I believe they try to help guide us throughout life and, in some instances, to protect us as well.

I can promise that I did hear my grandmothers voice once when I was going through a rough time, several years after her death. I never discussed it in my parish. There are so many things we may not understand why our faith has certain ways of doing something, but in the end I do it anyway. My Catholic faith is strong and it is my guidance for how I live my life. However, there are great mysteries out there and it's a wonder. I have experienced it myself. I consider it a blessing to have my faith and had that voice of my grandmom. Thank you for touching me today.

Very good article Lyn! With God all things are possible! That tornado hit our neighborhood, we were very lucky.

wow, that is very cool, even cooler that God has allowed your dad to take care of his little girl now since he did not properly while he was living. Thank you God for that!!

This is a beautifully written piece and I agree with everything you've said. I know of people who have had similar experiences in which deceased relatives sent warnings to them in times of danger. Having read a variety of books on near death experiences, I see religion as being a beautiful and wondrous thing. It seems to be people who are the judgmental ones. In a sense, I think they're distorting the inherent beauty of God and religion for their own purposes. Thanks for doing such a nice job sharing this article. BTW, I like to run in the rain too. I used to run several miles during a downpour. My husband thinks I'm nuts. :-)
