Bob Leonard looked at his watch. It was time to go out on the front porch to unlock the drop box. Pretty soon, he will have Twenty thousand dollars to deposit in his bank account. He hadn't bothered to dress for the day...he was wearing just his boxers, a dirty tee shirt and a pair of slippers. What the hell. He thought. No one was going to see him anyway, the porch was enclosed.

His big, stubby fingers fumbled with the key on the padlock. Success! He loved this part of his job. Collecting rent money. It was the best and fastest way to earn a lot of cash that was still legal. He began to rummage through the envelopes, checks and money orders...uh-huh. Just as he though, Marla Mitchell's check wasn't in there. He was furious. He took time to count the rest of the bounty. Yes. It was all there.

He picked up the phone and called her number. She wasn't home. He hung up for a minute until he could think of what he had to say. Marla used to be a good tenant. For six years she always paid her rent on time and never complained about anything. Now all of a sudden, she had become his worse enemy. She had called the code enforcement people on him twice. He wasn't ready to kick her out yet. He felt that she needed to be taught a lesson first.

He recalled her number and left his message on her answering machine. He snickered to himself. Its time for the bitch to pay up or get out he thought to himself. He laughed inwardly and got ready to head for the bank. Today was a good day. He wasn't about to let some broad ruin it for him.

Across town Marla Mitchell got home from work early. It had rained the night before, and the plastic over her sofa helped protect the fabric from the steady dirty drips of water coming from behind the bubbled dropped ceiling. Knowing that a major disaster could happen if something wasn't done, she stood on a chair with a pencil, and carefully poked a whole in the middle of the sagging tile to allow the water to drip down freely.

Ooooh that was so good; filthy bastards (slumlords). Lisa this is very good writing and I was on edge the whole time. One of the most suspenseful reads I've had in quite a while. What a jerk this guy was--taking advantage of her circumstances. Thanks for the story. *****

Sorry to hear that Lisa, yet your anger to your landlord had grown this sweet fruit; your creepy dark story. I really love this one! Thank you for informing me about it. :-)

A well written story - but quite frightening to read of such scoundrels. I read it before bedtime as you directed.

Now --- THIS could be recast into poetry...! Leaving the gruesome parts ((...which I skipped over...shhh)) as prose in the manner of Goethe in Faust Part I.

I just really liked how real this story was and how sad it is that people do honestly have to live like that at times. I thought this was a very DEEP and truthful story about how people are made to suffer by other peole and their environments. And Lisa, I'm so sorry that you have had to live in a similar environment. Bless your heart!

I had a landlord that put me through hell...I lived in deplorable conditions for six years...Although not a rapist, I still thought that he was the devil incarnate!

WOW!!! This is an awesome story!!! I can only speculate how many greedy landlords made female tennants who fell on hard times pay with their bodies (souls)! I have lived in some hell-holes before; most urban landlords will let their houses run down as far as possible without attracting legal attention. I'm glad the bastard got his comeuppance! Burn in hell, you son of a bitch!

OOOOO!!!!! This was GREAT!!!!! I can't believe that a lanlord made Marla live in such a horrible place! I really don't blamer her at all for calling the health department on his snooty buns! I mean it was a real tragedy what happened, until she got her revenge! I never expected her to make another appearance in the story after he killed her, but she did and what a great appearance it was!!!! WOWEEEE!!!!! Lisa, sis, this is so awesome, I mean AWESOME!!!!!! You had me biting my nails to the nubs!!!!! The ending was great too, especially when the police officer sees her and her long hair....WOW!!!!! I got chills up and down my spine!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!! *****

This is a very dark story. There is some language. I like to create truly evil villians and then gleefully turn my pen on them. Still, I hope that you enjoy it.
