The first time I was introduced to Star Wars, many years ago, I thought it to be a magnificent story. A story worthy enough to inspire the dreams of many a young man. A story of a young farm boy living an ordinary life with no hope of excitement in his future. The young man finds out that the uncle raising him was once a hero and is given the chance to become one himself. What red blooded young man would not find that appealing?

The idea of a "force" that could be tapped into by anyone, a force that would give an individual great power was also appealing. I did not really put much thought into it when I was younger, yet now realize that the "force" is the spiritual force that people of many religions try to tap into. Shamans, mystics, new age types as well as Muslims, Christian and Buddhist all seek to tap into the spirit, force or collective soul as each religion dictates. As a young man I was always interested in spiritual things, but I viewed Star Wars as "just a movie."

George Lucas is one pretty smart fellow. In discussing the intent of the Star Wars story with a friend, we also came to the realization that the politics involved in the movie is also very similar to what is going on right now in our own time. We are currently going through a huge struggle for power with the leaders of our country and the leaders of foreign countries. In the movie the struggle is between two groups. One group is for empire building and the other wishes to maintain autonomy within their individual republics. They meet in a United Nations type setting and practice the fine art of diplomacy and power building.

Ron Paul and I are the same age, we met and talked for awhile during his 1988 campaign, but it's going to take a wide spread change to make the transition to a libertarian society.. If we libertarians end up the way the conservatives have, privatization has been just theft of tax payer resources on a grand scale, theft as great as what has happened since Reagan came to office has not happened since the European Conqest of the Americas, so I am very concerned about the success of a Libertiarian Revolution... if that were to turn bad the way the Republican revoution did there would be no hope for a future at all.
