Secret Love Note Valentine's Day Cookies

One of my favorite homemade valentine's day cookie recipe and gift is fortune cookie valentines. My children and myself created these homemade cookies for my husband last Valentine's Day and he loved them. It is a simple cookie that all children can help to create.

Before you make the homemade valentine's day cookies, decide who you would like to give the cookies to for a gift. Then, create your fortunes. Write things that you love about the person on small slips of paper approximately 1/2" by
2" paper. Use a non toxic marker to write the love notes. Fold the notes in half after writing them. For my husband we wrote all the things we loved about him. Each love note fortune said "I love my Daddy because..." and my children would complete the phrase. Another idea would be to write love coupons. Write down small favors that you will do for your Valentine.

To make the actual fortune Valentine's day cookies, purchase store bought pie crust dough in the refrigerator section or make your own pie crust dough. Open up the pie crust dough and roll it out on the counter. Using a circle cutter (such as a sandwich sealer or a cookie cutter) cut out as many circles as you can in the dough. Take one circle at a time and place one fortune in the middle of the circle. Fold the circle over and seal it shut by pinching the pie crust. Dab it with water to help seal the cookie. Sprinkle a bit of water on the folded cookie. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on the cookie or red sprinkles. Bake the homemade valentine's cookies according to the pie crust directions or until the cookies are slightly browned. Watch closely to prevent burning.

When cool, place the fortune cookies in a Chinese take out food container and give as a gift to your Valentine.
