Valentine's Day is one of the most consumer-driven holidays. It is on Valentine's Day that chocolate, flowers and candy are purchased moreso than any other holiday. While the traditional views of Valentine's Day depict the event at a celebration of love between a man and a woman, more contemporary views embrace the love among families, children and even the love and commitment between same sex partners.

Considered the most romantic day of the year, Valentine's Day has been widely studied by psychologists and sociologists in terms of the unequal balance between feminine and masculine viewpoints. In fact, the findings by psychologists and sociologists, in terms of viewpoints on sexual orientation to the Valentine's Day holiday, often guide many advertising and marketing companies to make decisions about their promotional ideas.

If you own a company that caters to the population that may be interested in your product for Valentine's Day gifts, it is important to consider your demographic. While many advertisers cater their advertising campaign to either men or women, there are some that choose to remain neutral in hopes of capturing a greater demographic, including same sex couples.

If the products you are marketing are designed for women, it may be prudent to investigate the possibility of planning a marketing and advertising campaign that is feminine in nature but caters to a broader audience, including men with more feminine characteristics. In doing so, your products may be marketed to a great audience that begins to incorporate same sex couples in your demographic of consumers and clientele.
