Luvs Diapers Versus Pampers Baby Dry Diapers

There is a Difference in Disposable Diapers!

My new son, at six months old, goes through a lot of diapers. We probably use about 6-10 diapers per day. I know some people still use cloth diapers but we chose to go with disposables. And, we’ve tried out a number of different diapers! What we like best are diapers that make our
son comfortable and keep him dry without leaking.

There are 2 brands with which we are happiest at the time but still they both are very different. Pampers Baby Dry Diapers have Sesame Street characters on the diapers. There is a Sesame Street character on the front and on the back of the diaper. Then the rest of the diaper has designs such as clouds, suns, stars, and bugs on the rest of the outside and can show through when baby wears light colored clothing. On the other hand, Luvs diapers feature Blue’s clues characters on the front and are basically white on the rest of the diaper’s outside. Not that anyone cares what’s on baby’s diaper but it looks better when baby is wearing light colored clothing that the diaper designs do not show through

Pampers Baby Dry Diapers have an absorbent middle core which really does work. It keeps the wetness in the core and away from baby’s skin. I have also found that it does not leak out of the diaper which is a very important feature to me. I think that the elasticized legs really do keep the diaper from leaking. Luvs have a very similar core and elasticized legs. Luvs also do not seem to leak even when my baby seems to to be very wet. Both diaper brands absorb wetness away from baby’s skin well. My son, in his 6 months, has never had a diaper rash!

When we look at the outside of the diapers, Luvs seems to have a fabric feel to the outside while Pampers feels more like paper. Pampers are also more “crinkly” sounding when you touch them. Luvs seem more natural; more like a cloth diaper.

Related information
  • Disposable diapers need to be absorbent to really keep baby dry and stop leaks from happening.
  • Diaper design can be a factor in choosing diapers.
  • A small difference in price per diaper can add up to a lot over the diaper wearing years.

My 4 1/2 month old daughter never had a diaper rash...until we tried LUVS. I researched a bit on all the brands looking for a bit of a discount from our usual purchases of Pampers Swaddlers & Pampers Baby Dry. I learned that Proctor & Gamble make both the Pampers & Luvs and figured they'd be comparable. WRONG! Our little girl developed a horrible rash ( with open sores!!) that required a Dr's visit, prescription medicated ointment, and 2 weeks to clear up! And now I learn this is not uncomon for other Luvs users. We're trashing the 152 remaining Luvs we purchased and going back to Pampers.

We use the Pampers Cruisers on our 8-month-old (who is already in size 4 and heading quickly for size 5). We tried Luvs--BIG mistake! Our little guy (just like the 11 other children in our group of friends) was HIGHLY allergic to them. After doing some searching on the internet, I quickly realized that the majority of children have allergic reactions of one kind or another to Luvs diapers. Our son's reaction occurred within an hour of having the Luvs diaper on and was so severe that it resulted in heave-bawling and requiring him to be soaked in cool water (By The Way: Do NOT use diaper rash creme on an allergic reaction to diapers--It BURNS the baby much worse than initial reaction. Clean off the reacting area and soak in cool water to calm the skin. If it is too severe, such as blistering or having the appearance of fluid right beneath the skin layer, seek medical attention IMMEDIATELY.). I would never, ever recommend Luvs diapers to anyone. The potential risk is just too mu

i do totally understand the value of luvs maybe being cheaper, though sometimes you might have no other option than to by the more expensive one due to an allergic reaction to another diaper. :) such is life. we have tried quite a few other diapers and either they are to papery feeling and look uncomfortable or they end up with an allergic reaction for our daughter.

we have used pampers sensitive diapers since she was born, they gave us them in the hospital, and they work really well, and she has sensitive skin, we tried using huggies, i didnt like the feel, they were too stiff and papery feeling. i get what you mean about pampers baby dry, i didnt much have an issue with that it showed through anything she was wearing that was light colored, it was more that it was papery feeling like huggies and didnt have the stretch tabs like pampers swaddlers does. i would recommmend trying out pampers swaddlers, they come in newborn up to size 3 up to 10 lbs - 22 lbs but they go from there to cruisers for active babies which is sizes 3-7 16 - 41+ lbs, then easy ups for learning toddlers 22 lbs 35+ lbs, and for the potty trainers 2T - 5T 26 + 51. just an idea, to inform people, we have used them since day one with her, they used them at the hospital we had her at and we noticed that alot of people use them and alot of hospitals use them. so we figured
