For some ungodly reason, CBS apparently decided that the one person in all of television journalism alive today who was most capable of carrying on their legacy of high quality reportage in the tradition of Edward R. Murrow and Walter Cronkite was…little Katie Couric. Andy Rooney—whom I normally try my best not to listen to—made a good point when he suggested that twenty million dollars a year could go to reopening news bureaus that had been closed across the world and hiring new reporters. Instead, that twenty million dollars will go to a woman whose biggest claim to journalistic fame is describing the gigantic helium balloons in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade each year.

Katie Couric has this image of every woman wanting to be like her and every man wanting to date her. The first is ridiculous, the second is beyond belief. I personally know of no man who finds Katie Couric desirable. In fact, it used to be a common joke around my house that whenever Couric’s red-lipsticked visage appearance on our television screen that I would say, “There’s the little clown.” She looks like Krusty the Klown from The Simpsons! Desirable? Sexy? Maybe in the bizarro world where Superman is evil and George Bush is smart.

Over three years ago I predicted that American troops would still be in Iraq five years later, that democracy would still be a pipedream and that, much like how Yugoslavia fell into ethnic civil wars, Iraq would be a morass of conflicting ideologies that pointed up just how clueless our leaders are when they consider Islam to be one unified religion. Today I make another prediction: Katie Couric will be gone from the CBS News anchor chair within two years.

Did You Know?
Katie Couric has no less than five acting credits listed on Internet Movie Database.

Katie is not my cup of tea, but in that misserable world she is far superior than Barbara Walters and Diane Swayer. These 2 are just such poor excuse for journalists. If they wanted a woman to anchor the CBS Evening News, they should had chosen Leslie Stahl, she is far more credible and capable. I rather listen to radio, talking about HOT and SMART, gimme Randi Rhodes and Stephanie Miller 24/7

What has bothered me about Katie is how her interviewing skills have deteriorated. Specifically, if she were interviewing someone about a new way to clean a spot or something, she would say that she has already been doing that, or that she already knew that. Katie would upstage her guests. She has been doing that for several years now. It's rude, poor journalism, and crass. I believe it started as her ratings started to go down in an effort to show everyone how bright she was. It was futile, I think her leaving NBC was really a leave or be fired type of deal regardless of what was said. Now Katie will be in a real hot seat where it doesn't count if you are self centered or a show off and I agree, I don't think she will last 2 years, I don't think she will last 1 year. I have set up a blog at www.katiecouricsucks.com just to show how disappointed I am in the way she has changed.

Sorry, Steph. Ashleigh seemed far too interested in trying to change the image of girls who wear glasses than in being a serious journalist.

Bah. I've seen some tool-like remarks come out of Soledad. I know she's a hottie, but she's no Helen Thomas either. I'm going to give my vote to Ashleigh Banfield.

Absolutely. He presents himself as an affable, reasonable media critic while in reality he lies and exaggerates regularly. What is disturbing is just how many people swallow whole the liberal bias myth. It is all a part of the demonization and distortion of liberalism.

True. Goldberg is worse than a joke. He's dangerous in furthering the utter myth of a liberal bias. I reiterate: If there was truly a liberal bias in the media, why did every single network newscast start off with the non-story of JonBenet Ramsey murder confession while ignoring what was truly the biggest story of the same day, a judge ruling Pres. Bush's NSA spying program was unconstitutional. If there was any liberal bias surely at least ONE network would have led off with that.

Bernard Goldberg is a joke

Let's hear it for Amy Goodman!! Glad you mentioned her interview with Al Lewis-it was pretty memorable. And her ambush of Bill Clinton on election day 2000 was one of the most impressive things I've ever heard. He thought it was going to be the sort of kiss ass fest he has since become accustomed to, but Amy hit him with some really hard questions. She and Bill Moyers are heroes to me. Kaie Couric is a joke and will sit in that CBS anchor chair in this age of ratings based reporting. To quote Randi Rhodes, "the news has been cancelled."

Congratulations on the Emmy award. And you just may have given me an idea for an upcoming article with that thing there you just said about that there Helen Keller.
