Since the inception of the BCS system most college football fans have been dreaming of the day that the NCAA come up with some sort of playoff system for college football, just like all of the other major collegiate sports. Unfortunately, all of the talk and rumblings fell on deaf ears and all we got was a tweaked BSC system that was woefully unfair.

There were plenty of supporters on both sides of the situation and both are very passionate about their points of view. We on the side of the playoff system have been hearing that a playoff system isn't necessary because BSC system always worked out in the end. That too me is a ridiculous notion, just because in the end it may work out doesn't mean that the BCS system is fair.

I have heard many ideas on how a playoff system could work with a number of teams whether it is 4, 8 or 16 teams being seeded and each of different plans sounded pretty good. But no matter how many plans were talked about the powers that be decided that the BSC was the way to go. It appears that there is a push to come up with a viable plan for a playoff system that won't cause undue hardship on the players and schools.

The man behind this push toward a playoff system for NCAA college football is Michael Adams; he is the President of the University of Georgia and also the chairman of the NCAA Executive Committee. He has proposed an 8 team field using four top bowl games for the first round of the playoff system with the semi-finals to follow one week later and the National Title game will follow one week after that. The interesting part of this story is this is the same man that has opposed any idea of a playoff system in NCAA college football.

It appears that Mr. Adams has had a major change of heart and this statement says it all "The Current BCS System is undercutting the sportsmanship and integrity of the game". That seems to me a very damning statement and it goes to very heart of collegiate sports. I can't think of a better reason to dump the BCS and come up with a playoff system.

Robert, sometimes I think threats is all that these bowl and conference commissioners understand.

Threaten the Big 10 and Pac 10 commissiors with actual punishments for resisting any playoff systems that would alter the Rose Bowl, and this'll get down.
