Revelations that newsletters published under the name of U.S. Representative Ronld E. Paul (R-TX) containing racist, anti-Semitiic and homophobic rants has been picked up by the mainstream media after his showing in the 2008 Iowa caucuses, where he placed fifth with almost 12,000 votes and 10% of the vote, nearly three times the supoprt garnered by former New York City Mayor Guiliani. In the January 8, 2008 New Hampshire Primary, Paul also finished in fifth place among Republican voters, just 2,000 votes & 1% shy of fourth-place finisher Guiliani. A libertarian newsletter has been published under Ron Paul's name for nearly 20 years, but Paul himself denies that he is the author of the egregious bigotry trafficked in by his newsletters.

The scrutiny of Ron Paul likely is related to the $20-million warchest he has raised. His candidacy also gained credence, of sort, from the endorsement of Andrew Sullivan, a columnist for The Atlantic and the former editor of The New Republic. Sullivan,a central figure in the center-right coalition that legitimated George W. Bush's War on Terrorism, endorsed Paul for President in December 2007, which is unusual as Sullivan is gay and Ron Paul's newsletter is linked to homophobia. However, Sullivan named his favorites in both parties, and Paul won his endorsement over U.S. Senator John McCain, due to Paul's position of favoring a quick withdrawal of combat troops from Iraq.

The fact is, the racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic content of Ron Paul's newsletters have been circulating on the Internet for the past year, since he launched his candidacy.

Ron Paul is dabbling in an area of politics where, from the time of the Cold War depths of the 1950s, the nuts typically have outnumbered the sane. Paul is very much of the stripe of the anti-communist "libertarian" that arose in the 1950s & early '60s, denouncing the Federal Reserve and calling for the return to the gold standard, for instance.

In 2005, Paul introduced the We the People Act, which would have removed from the jurisdiction of federal courts "any claim based upon the right of privacy, including any such claim related to any issue of sexual practices [or] orientation" and "any claim based upon equal protection of the laws to the extent such claim is based upon the right to marry without regard to sex or sexual orientation." If made law, these provisions would allow states to prohibit sexual practices and same-sex marriage.

Paul opposes federal efforts to redefine marriage as something other than a union between one man and one woman. Paul believes that recognizing or legislating marriages should be left to the states. For this reason, he voted against the Federal Marriage Amendment in 2004. He spoke in support of the Defense of Marriage Act, passed in 1996, which limited the Constitution's Full Faith and Credit Clause by allowing states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states. He co-sponsored the Marriage Protection Act, which would have barred judges from hearing cases pertaining the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act. Paul has said that federal officials changing the definition of marriage to allow same-sex marriage is "an act of social engineering profoundly hostile to liberty." Paul stated that "Americans understandably fear" the nationwide legalization of same-sex marriage. He says that in a best case scenario, governments would enforce contracts and grant d

Rather curious that this "article" keeps pounding away with, "his newletters." Ron Paul has only apologized that he did not pay attention to what was being printed under his name. This is rubbish and unfounded.

Just another unfounded attack on Dr. Ron Paul. They (Neo-Cons) must fear his rising popularity why else would they right lies against the man. I think it's great, they are just giving him more name recognition. Anyone who cares to know about the man will do research of their own and find out he had nothing to do with these articles. How can you label him all these nasty things when he stands for personal liberties, more so then any other candidate on either side! Shame on you.

the status quo is so afraid of Paul that they have to put these garbage out. I do not believe that Paul has anything to do with it at all. Not a single word of it. He is the most authentic presidential candidate out there.
