Living in a world filled with deceit and betrayal makes it hard for us to trust, therefore making it even harder for us to build friendships. Every time you look up, you see backstabbing unforgivable situations going on around you, or you've probably been through it yourself. Life is all about taking risks because nothing is guaranteed to any of us. How can you tell if a friend is really a friend?

Are you being supported or renounced? When times get rough, everyone needs someone to lean on whether it is for emotional, mental or financial support. Times are hard right now and one day this may become the case for many of us. When you go to your friend, and they immediately say no, or act as if they can't help you with whatever situation has you down, would you call that a friend? True enough, some individuals may not be in the greatest financial state to help, but what about words of encouragement, or just being there for you to be able to vent your frustrations? These two ideas involve no money, and can help just as well. If you have a true friend, they immediately try to place themselves in your shoes. They want to feel your pain and be apart of the healing process. If they tend Blow your problems off, or act as if they don't see why you feel the way you do, you might want to question them as a friend.

Can you trust them to be around you closet family...or boy/girlfriend? This is the one thing many of us dread....being backstabbed by your bestfriend. I can't tell you how many times I've seen this situation happen to others in my lifetime. It's a very painful situation to have to watch someone go through...and even more painful when you're the one going through it. When your boy/girlfriend is in the same room with your bestfriend and you feel like you have to set up a video camera just to be able to leave the room to go to the restroom, you might want to question them as a friend, as well as the boy/girlfriend.

Wonderful, wonderful! So many people get caught up in toxic friendships because they don't look for these signs. I'm so glad that there are other people out there who know how to effect positive relationships with peers. Nice work!

I loved your article(clapping my hands). Close family member will stab you in the back from time to time, so when you meet a complete stranger and they become a friend. Why do we find it so shocking when they betray us. The reason being we just don't expect certain things from certain individuals.
