Your first step in making a good impression at your new job already started before you even were offered the job. The single most important aspect of making a good impression at your new job starts with the interview. If you do not make a good impression at the interview you are unlikely to be offered the job and thus will not be able to make a good impression with your work. If you have followed traditional interview practices by sending out follow up thank you notes after the interview, you have already shown that you care about the job and that you are ready to become a valuable part of the company. Now it is up to you to take that to the next level when you officially start working. Here are some tips to get you through the first few months on a new job and leave you at the top of your boss's list.

When you start a new job first impressions are essential and the first impression with your boss and your coworkers starts on your first official day with the company. What you need to do is to present yourself to be as professional and capable of doing the job as you can. As the saying goes, "Dress to impress". Find out what your company's specific dress code is. Make sure you wear at least the minimum required such as nice pants and a dress shirt for business casual but it never hurts to go one step beyond when you are trying to make a good impression. I would not go for an all out black suit; you may look very out of place, but go for a more casual business suit with a more casual collared shirt. Traditional grooming should be kept as well and it never hurts to have a fresh haircut to round off the personal style. Showing your employer you can take care of yourself will show them you can take care of the job and its customers.
