First and foremost when apartment hunting you need to know the maximum amount you can spend. This will help narrow down which apartments you will need to look at and which ones you do not. Having a budget and sticking to it will save you time and effort and prevent you from falling for an apartment you cannot afford. Likewise, you want to know how little you are willing to live with. The less expensive the apartment you look at the more likely it is to be old and rundown. Having a minimum and maximum rent rate will keep you looking at apartments you actually might want to live in.
Secondly, have and idea of the area you going to look for apartments in. How far away are you willing to be from family and friends and your job? This may affect which neighborhoods are available to you for apartments. It is essential for you to check out the neighborhood before signing a lease. You do not want to end up renting in a bad neighborhood or one with a lot of noise pollution such as an airport or railroads nearby. Living next to a school means lots of children around and affect speed limits. Some neighborhoods will have a higher expense of living than others. If you have to live in a place for a year or more you should like what is surrounding you.
