Acne is a common problem for most teenagers anymore, especially in the west. Medicaly speaking, acne is a skin rash of varied kinds, with the most common one being Acne Vulgaris. Speaking from a teenager's perspective, acne is gross, and sometimes painful. The worst part of acne is generally the psychological trauma that patients go through. Our society and media do not differentiate between appearance and value of a person, and there is no longer a concept of character of a person, while God is now considered and alien on Jupiter or just the “essence of life that connects all humanity and life on this planet”. As such, acne can easily lead to depression and other psychological problems.
Acne is pretty much the name given to the recurring pimples and pustules, and the scarring that comes with it. When a hair follicle is blocked and the oil glands associated with continue pumping out more and more oil, it provides a breeding ground for many bacteria that can cause acne. This is the leading cause of acne. During the teenage years, the hormonal changes lead to quick shedding of skin inside the hair follicles and over-activity of the oil glands, leading to acne. The various treatments available range from benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid based topical treatments to high class brands such as Proactiv and things such as Acutane.
To begin with, avoid Acutane at all costs. It can cause liver toxicity if you're not careful and can also cause severe skin shedding that can leave marks on your face and body. I've personally used ProActive, and while it did seem to work for a while, in the long run it costs too much and you have to keep using it. This makes it a very expensive choice especially for someone in their teens.

Takeaways
- ProActive works, but is too expensive and you have to keep using it.
- Do NOT use Acutane, it can have some pretty severe consequences.
- Use basic benzoyl peroxide creams or try the program I mention, it's fully refundable anyway.
Did You Know?
Acne is more common in the west despite the "developed" status probably because of genetic disposition.
