The Power of Words... What Are You Saying?
The power of words is a topic that has been debated, examined, researched, and just plain talked about for centuries. Each side of the issue has die hard proponents that won't give an inch. As for this author, after many years of study on this subject I would have to say that I am a true believer in the power of words.
I have studied the Bible extensively and also some of the "new age" literature from some of the prominent teachers in this area. I must confess upfront that I am a born again believer and that most definitetly has a bearing on what I why I believe in the power of words.
Now before you get ready to stone me for saying I have studied some new age material you need to understand that I believe truth comes from only one place...God. SOME of the new age literature I have read has some truth to it.
For example John 6:39..."Judge not and you will not be judged"... Present day translation "what goes around comes around". New age definition..."karma". They all have their root from the Truth.
Now getting back on topic with the power of words lets take a look at some of the compelling truth in the Word. One of the passages in the Bible that really nails it down is Proverbs 4:23-24 which says, 23"Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do". 24 "Avoid all perverse talk; stay far away from corrupt speech".
Notice how the Bible warns first that you should guard your heart. This is stated because whatever you believe in your heart, whether good or bad, true or false, right or wrong, when you speak, you are speaking out of the overflow of your heart. Luke 6:45 says, "For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks".
