Jamie Lynn Spears' Pregnancy

From Tween Idol to Teen Mom

Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 is one of the most popular tween tv series, right up there with Hannah Montana. Recent news reports of Jamie Lynn Spears, 16, younger sister of sometimes-fizzling pop star Britney Spears, have shocked a whole generation of young girls.

What Happened to Jamie Lynn?

Despite her older sister's shenanigans, Jamie Lynn was generally regarded by parents of young Zoey 101 viewers as a wholesome all-American young teen. The nation was shocked to learn that Jamie Lynn and her mother Lynne broke the pregnancy news to OK! for a payment of $1 million.

Jamie Lynn's Dad Responds

Jamie Lynn Spears' father (also named Jamie) has reportedly been furious with his ex-wife Lynne's decision to cash-in on their teen's pregnancy. Dad Jamie works as a chef and allegedly does not receive any money from his daughters' work while Lynne receives a portion of the teen's salary

Lynn Spears: Blamed by the Media

Various print and online media outlets have placed blame on Jamie Lynn's mom Lynne Spears. As mother of the obviously-troubled Britney, who recently lost custody of her two sons, and the teen mom Jamie Lynn, is Lynne to blame for the behavior of her daughter? Various folks have varying opinions on the motherhood matter.

In Jamie Lynn's Words

Jamie Lynn told Ok magazine (December 18, 2007, OK! Magazine, Northern & Shell North America Ltd.):

"I can't say it was something I was planning to do right now. But now that it's in my lap and that it's something I have to deal with, I'm looking forward to being the best mom I can be."

Teen Pregnancy

With the release of the new popular movie Juno about teen pregnancy, along with the news of the teen icon's pregnancy, the media has recently pondered whether teen pregnancy is becoming more commonplace, or more socially accepted. The Guttmacher Institute released a stidy indicating that each year nearly 750,000 teens between the ages of 15-19 become pregnant in the United States, but that the rate is at its lowest level in 30 years. (U.S. Teenage Pregnancy Statistics, Guttmacher Institute, September 2006) For more information on teen pregnancy visit teenpregnancy.org.

I dissapointed with the media judging Jamie Lynn Spears because she 16 & got pregnant. I know teen girls who got pregnant & they were good girls. What if she was like that too. If an average young girl got pregnant we would feel sorry for her but a teen star have to be perfect. Nobody stood up for her except for her mother. We didn't even give Jamie a chance. Shouldn't we be supporting her.

I think most of you have the wrong idea about teen moms... I was 17 when i became pregnant, and I planned on getting pregnant. If you think about it, having children at a young age can actually be better because you get to spend SO much more time on earth with your child(ren)... So Jamie, if you just happen to read this... I'm proud of you... you believed in yourself and you DID NOT do ANYTHING stupid!!!!!

They should have kept her on Zoey 101 during when she was pregnant. She could have been like, "Chase, there's something I need to tell you."

She should have to do some volunteer work getting the word out about teen pregnancy, maybe do a guest appearance on Baby Borrowers or something.
