Short Poems for Black History Month
I, Too, Dreamed
last night
I, too, had a dream
and witnessed on my skin an ocean
of brown sun-burnt African gold
I had a dream
like so many claim and hold to
but not of white and black
I had a dream of brown
I witnessed foaming coffee waves
crashing down upon each other
in a wild and raging sea of
broken dreams
and I, too, dreamed, and I longed to
wake again
