Okay, we've all read the email. You know, the one claiming Obama was sworn into the senate on the Koran, he wouldn't recite the pledge of allegiance, and he was raised radical Muslim. We've read it. By now, you know all key issues of that rumor were addressed and set to rights. Yay.

Senator Barak Obama has received an astronomical amount of public support in his campaign for Presidency. Much more than many originally thought he would get. For that, I feel his campaign team should feel proud of themselves. They've done a good job.

The question I have is why he has so much support. Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to bash this man who so obviously is filled with youthful passion for change and reform. My question is simply, why does he have so many supporters?

I'm 26 years old. In my age group I am among the very few who have not been swayed by the man's powerful pension for public speaking. Words have no meaning to me. Go back in history to every president ever elected. How many were able to keep their campaign promises? Our country is not run by just one person, it is run by a president, a senate, and a house of representatives and they all have to agree to make new laws and changes before they can take place.

I'm middle class. You'd think this man would have stolen my heart with his promises to ease the sufferings of the middle class. I like the tax breaks he proposes to give us, but we're trillions of dollars in debt. Where's the money going to come from? And anyone who's had to prepare taxes before knows it is impossible to reform income tax laws enough to enable Americans to process a tax reform in 5 minutes. Plus, millions of accountants and CPAs will lose their jobs. These people depend on tax season to pay their bills. I happily pay my accountant every year to take this burden away from me. Kudos for the thought, but it's an empty promise.

It appears that America is headed for a civil war. The racial divide is getting much bigger as a result of this political "race". We cannot afford to vote based on a candidate's "charisma". No one is perfect but Obama's flip-flopping is a dangerous sign at this stage in the game. Usually the flip-flopping occurs in the White House. Over the past couple of years there has been a great movement to encourage us to all vote, especially appealing to younger people (commercials using celebrities). Now that everyone seems ready to exercise their right, the choice list goes from bad to worse, not good to best. However, a gender war seems more tolerable than a race war. I think the young votes are going to Obama just for the hell of having a Black president. Just curious, does anyone think the Neo-Nazis will allow this to happen? I liked your article...Great job!

To address the recent comment, yes voting records are a valuable tool when evaluating a candidate. I have little faith in voting records that only hold such a short term in office, though. A more important insight into his character came today. Friday he told Fox news that he had never heard Rev. White make racial or Anti-American statements and if he had he would have confronted the reverend, not 4 days later he says that he did indeed hear those statements and others, but he didn't agree with them. He has proven himself a liar, and words based on lies can unite no one.

Rather than checking out his campaign promises (the barackobama.com/issues link you provide), why not evaluate his voting record, both in the US Senate and his more extensive one in the Illinois Senate where he was widely credited with some important legislation (requiring -- and paying for -- video taped confessions, etc)? His record is not something he shies away from because his speeches can be backed up through them. Voting records, btw, are available on the government websites. And in a day when polarizing beliefs have stymied real change, the ability to speak well and convince friends and enemies of what matters to America shouldn't be discounted. America's reputation is in shambles, not just because of our public actions, but our public speeches. Obama offers the full package.

Obama is nothing more than a confuser. One moment he says "we must come togeather" the next he is tangled up with a Rev. Wright who is the biggest Black racist. This is the man who talks about change? Please...Democrats are nothing more than dividers. I have seen it time and time again. Now Whites are waking up to how Democrat Blacks are racist. Only Republican Blacks are NOT racists. A Republican Black is the enemy of most racist Blacks and ANY Democrat.

His first name is spelled "Barack," NOT Barak.

I think you make some excellent points about Obama. He is a very talented speaker, and he is gifted with powers of persuasion. BUT, Hillary most certainly is NOT the answer. I'd vote for Obama over Hillary, and I'm not even a Democrat! I don't feel the Republican candidates are much to be proud of either. What's a voter to do???
