Hillary Vs Obama: The Fight for South Carolina
Embed:
The presidential race could not be anymore exciting. Both parties have seen an election that is fast becoming less predictable on a daily bases, endlessly proving the pundits wrong, and keeping voters awake. Iowa was known to be a tough buy for Sen. Hillary Clinton, coming in a year ago with a 9% in the polls and finishing with 29%, but nobody could have predicted such a strong showing for Sen. Obama. The Obamamania of course ensued, taking over the mainstream Medias time and drove the already high expectations for the junior senator, even higher. The 'granite state' was expected to give Sen. Obama a double digit lead over his main rival, and the media called the Clinton campaign dead in the water and permanently damaged. The people of New Hampshire had other plans and gave Hillary the win, voting for the candidate who they felt has shown accomplishments throughout a long career. Polls proved wrong, the pundits were caught with their pants down, and the losing campaigns worked on the spin. Iowa and New Hampshire can't determine who will be nominated, or who will be president, but they have set the bars of expectations. Going into New Hampshire on a wave of enthusiasm for his candidacy, Barack Obama expected another high wave that would carry him to the nomination. But once New Hampshire voted for Hillary, that first wave has begun to crest ashore as an already weak support among black voters in South Carolina have second guessed his ability to win in the fall. We can't know if enough support will remain on his side come the primary, until those voters hit the booths. Leading Hillary by 10 percentage points in the last Rasmussen poll from more than a month ago, we can hardly call the win for Obama.
