The Joy Fit Club is the hottest diet and nutrition plan around and details can be found here: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22414698/ . Now featured at MSNBC and the Today show, the Joy Fit Club plan features people who have moderate and large amounts of weight to lose. To add to the appeal, monthly members who have lost 100 pounds or more are inducted into a special group called Joy Bauer's Fit Club.

What makes the Joy Fit Club so tempting? Part of the attraction is the fact that a significant number of members have lost huge amounts of weight, dieters like Mandy Muniz, whose profile and story can be seen here: www.zimbio.com/pilot .The other reason may be that people are tired of plans that require potentially risky surgery and are inspired by seeing people who've kept the weight off, even massive amounts of weight, by using the Joy Fit Club plan. If this diet continues to take the diet world by storm, it could indicate a sea change in the way people look at weight loss, moving from quick fixes to realistic and balanced eating plans.

The Basics of the Joy Fit Club - The Rules

While all of the rules can be seen at the regular msnbc website listed above, here are some highlights: Think Positive. There is no special trick here. Bauer indicates right up front that attitude is at least half the key to success. Get rid of the old and try the new. In short, throw out any foods that are unhealthy and fill the empty spaces in your refrigerators with foods allowed on the Joy Fit Plan, including vegetables, lean meats, low-fat foods and other healthier choices.

Be sure to eat all day long. Joy Bauer wants dieters to eat within ninety minutes of waking up in the morning and continue to eat meals that are no longer than four to five hours apart. This is supposed to keep blood sugar level, control hunger and reduce cravings. Exercise is also a vital part of the plan, at least thirty minutes a day.

There is a food plan listed for those who like regimented meals but Joy Bauer notes that dieters can eat out and pick their own meals to fit the Joy Fit Club plan, as long as they follow the rules and the meals are within target calorie ranges. This allows for some variety.

i've lost many, many pounds and kept them off for years with some very simple foods. This is one of my favorite meals: Buy a few types of GRATERS...grate one organic CARROT, OR, one chunk of CELERY ROOT (cut off outer peel), or a chunk of DAIKON RADISH (or any other type of radish)..one root vegetable is enough, or two if you're very hungry. Make a dressing in a jar and put the lid on and shake: dash of nutritional yeast, dash of dried rosemary, crushed, dash of CELTIC SEA SALT, 1 tablespoon olive oil, & (very important ingredient) tablespoon of BALSAMIC VINEGAR. Eating some RAW STARCH (not cooked starch, like pasta, or potatoes, or bread) is VITAL to body and brain chemistry. This food satisfies the appetite FOR HOURS; change the root vegetable daily for variation. It requires a bit of preparation; it's very portable, and well worth it. Good luck to you.

I'd heard the name, but knew nothing about the plan -- good info, thank you! I'm not sure on the 'giving up all starch for 2 weeks' part, but maybe if it's only 2 weeks it's ok (my dietician says any plan that vetoes a food group isn't good in the long term...). Eating early in the morning is essential, IMO, along with eating every 3-4 hours; not only does it keep your blood sugar more stable, it also gets your metabolism going and keeps it going. Some people say "Oh, if I eat breakfast, then I'm hungry all day!" Well, yes, and that's a GOOD thing! It means your metabolism is high and you're actually burning calories! Overall, this sounds reasonable. Anything that promises fast results probably means you'll gain back all the weight once you stop it. Sounds a lot like some of the Weight Watchers plans, though!
