Gene Simmons: Marketing Genius or Sellout?
KISS is one of the greatest rock bands of all time and Gene Simmons is a legend, but is he a marketing genius? Many people think he is. Donald Trump thought that Gene Simmons was such a marketing genius that he was chosen to be on Celebrity Apprentice. But,
is he really a marketing genius or is Gene Simmons actually a sellout?
If you've ever watched the show Gene Simmons Family Jewels, you've probably seen this rock legend make some great business deals. He's made money on everything from cologne to bull sperm. There's no denying that Gene Simmons knows where the money is and what it takes to get it. But, does that make him a marketing genius?
In several business deals, Gene Simmons has used the KISS logo. In fact, you can find the KISS logo on everything from race cars to underwear to even condoms. You can even find the hit song "Rock 'n' Roll All Niight" on a kid's toothbrush. What does this say about Gene Simmons? Does it make him a marketing genius or a sellout?
One has to admit that Gene Simmons has taken the KISS logo and placed it in some pretty weird spots, just to make a quick buck. This does require the skills of a marketing genius, not just a sellout. After all, it must have been tough to sell many of these items when KISS has done so little over the past decade. Still, it seems this rock legend is a bit of a sellout.
Why does Gene Simmons seem like a sellout though? If you've watched Family Jewels, you've probably seen that he will do almost anything for money. This has included taking his family on a camping trip in an R.V. that had the logo of a popular male enhancement drug on the outside. This did earn him several thousand dollars, but does that make him a marketing genius or a sellout?
