Spiritual unions like that of Eddie Murphy and Tracey Edmonds are not recognized as a legal marriage. On New Year's Day, reports that Comedian/Actor Eddie Murphy and Producer Tracey Edmonds were married on a small island off of Bora Bora in French Polynesia were all over the internet and in print media. People magazine was the magazine that was first to announce the news. According to People Magazine, "As is typical when couples get married in foreign countries, a legal ceremony will take place when they return to the U.S.," says Edmonds's rep.

Both were previously married and have children from those unions. Edmonds is divorced from music superstar Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds and they have two children together. They were married for 13 years. Murphy was married for 12 years to Nicole Murphy with whom he had five children with. In addition, he has one child with Spice Girls member Mel B. of recent Dancing With The Stars fame.

"The wedding that took place in Bora Bora was a ceremony to bind Eddie and Tracey spiritually in the presence of family and friends," according to the spokesperson. "The couple plan a legal ceremony as soon as they return to the States," People magazine also reported.

The photos shown featured the couple in wedding attire and most newspaper reports and other media accounts consider them to be newlyweds. Reports use the official term "wedding" even in the statement that was given to People magazine. The photos were beautiful and they look genuinely happy with the glow of love all around them. The mega couple will surely be featured in many more publications to come. And if there is another ceremony that is more official and legal, photos will be soon to follow.
