Michigan Primary Results: History did not repeat itself Tuesday night and John McCain did not repeat his 2000 Republican Primary win in Michigan. Several news outlets are reporting that Mitt Romney has won a tight race over John McCain in Michigan.

Early election results are showing that Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, won with 39 percent of the vote over John McCain, the senator from Arizona, who pulled in 30 percent of the vote. Mike Huckabee (16%) came in a distant third with a good amount of the votes still left to be counted.

John McCain had been hoping that independents and democrats would help him take the primary in Michigan, but a low turnout by independents and democrats voted at a much lower rate this year than in the 2000 Republican primary, all but killing McCain's bid to win in Michigan.

Now with three different winners in the four different Republican primaries there has yet to be a decided frontrunner in the Republican presidential race. Mike Huckabee won the first primary in Iowa, followed two days later by a Romney win in Wyoming. That was followed up the next week by a win in New Hampshire for McCain and then tonight by a Romney win in Michigan.

Going into next week's crucial primaries in South Carolina and Nevada, the race for he Republican presidential nomination seems to be as open as ever as these three candidates, as well as Rudolph Guiliani, look to score huge wins in those states leading up to Super Tuesday on February 5th.

The turnout in Michigan was abysmal with only 20 percent of registered voters showing up at the polls on Tuesday night. The main reason for such a low turnout was because there was a race of very little consequence on the democratic side. Hillary Clinton was the only democratic frontrunner on the ballot after Michigan was stripped of its democratic nomination delegates for holding its primary early. The democratic primary was held as merely a formality on Tuesday and very few democrats came out to vote.

It's looking more and more like a two person race in the GOP, the same as in the Democratic party. http://www.insurancephoenix.net
