Since more and more moms are opting to stay at home these days (some say the number is up 15% in the last 10 years) sooner or later a mom is going to get asked to a “party.” What kind of party? One may ask. And the answer will go something like this “Oh we’ll just get together, have something to eat, a little (facial, lingerie show, book show, toy demonstration..insert word here), you get to hang out with some other women, it will be fun!”

I’m talking about all the “work out of your home, on your own time, run your own business” opportunities out there. Most of the moms that I know are suburban women with two kids, a minivan, a husband who travels for work, and a three-story house. Most of them also have a little business, one of the several party-based, MLM businesses that seem uniquely set up for women. Just so you will know what to expect the next time someone invites you to a party, and then asks if you’d like to make X amount of dollars in your spare time, here is the lowdown on five of the more popular, common party businesses.

Takeaways
  • MLM takes a lot of hard work and ability to hear no.
  • Most home based businesses are multi-level marketing.
  • They can be a fun and cheaper way to buy your own product.
Did You Know?
The number of women opting to stay home after they have children is rising. That means a lot of women are looking for at home business opportunities.

Anyone who thinks MLM is a scheme has not done their research. Its simply not for everyone. Those who are successful in MLM find a quality company and then do the work required . Those who fail don't do the work or quit. If you want to get rich quick - MLM is not the way to go. You have to work very hard in the beginning for very little pay. If you make it to the top in an MLM company you have put in the time and effort required AND brought many of the people you introduced to the company to the top with you. If you want to talk about making the "person at the top rich" work for a corporation. In corporate I would have never had the same pay as my president or CEO and it would have taken me years of work to compete for a top seat. In MLM - income is unlimited and there is plenty of room "at the top." You have the ability to create the income you want/when your want depending on the effort you put in. Sincerely, A Successful Network Marketer.

I think you should have done more research before writing this article - I have a friend in each of the company's you wrote about and not all of the information is accruate. For example: Arbonne is not based in Canada. Got to their website and you will find that to be false...there are many more inconsistencies in all of the articles. If you are reading this to make an educated decision before you join a network marketing company do your own research - attend a few meetings and read company approved material on each company.

I tend to agree with Christine. Create your own idea and/or collaborate with others with the necessary skills to take the concept to a marketable product or service. Become the one at the top of the foodchain..

This is a very objective article, but you have rightly forewarned people that their friends will start avoiding them if they get into a business like this; I know that I try and find excuses not to waste huge amounts on baskets, candles, or lingerie that I can find of much better quality and price in regular stores. I suggest that if a stay-at-home mom really wants to get into business, she try and sell or make something she creates herself at a reasonable price. These schemes are designed to benefit those at the top of the food chain. Well written article!

Well it is refreshing to see that somone is willing to recognize the fact that their are two sides to every opportunity. After all in this day, and age we need an outside source of income. I believe that in anything you do, success always falls back on every individual.
