"Fanboys" Movie Heading for Re-Shoots

The much troubled comedy is heading for some re-shoots, according to Dark Horizons.

"Fanboys" has been shelved for almost two years and it's being reported the film will head to re-shoots.

The re-shoots will be supervised by Judd Apatow's producer Shauna Robertson. Shauna will help out by re-editing the film.

The film is about a group of Star Wars fanboys who plan on stealing a copy of Star Wars Episode I from Skywalker Ranch so one of their dying friends can see the film before he passes on.

Oh "the dying friend" story? Well that's one of the things that will be edited out of the film cause the Apatow folks belive people won't laugh for 5-10 minutes when Cancer is mentioned. A version with the plotline intact and one with it edited out will be screened to see what tests better. People who have seen an early cut of the film have said the dying friend storyline gives the film it's heart and to edit it out is a "shame". I personally don't see the reason to cut it.

No new writing will be done for the re-shoots and instead improv by the actors and old drafts the script will be used. The re-shoots were done about 3 weeks ago.

George Lucas was shown a screening of the film and approved it and allowed to the filmmakers to use Star Wars sound FX. Kevin Smith was also given a screening of the film and asked for a cameo in the film. A trailer was released early last year and was received with postive remarks. A early cut was also seen and reviews were postive.

The film is directed by Kyle Newman (The Hollow) and is written by Ernest Cline and Adam F. Goldberg. It stars Sam Huntington (Superman Returns) , Kristin Bell (Veronica Mars) , Chris Marquette (The Girl Next Door) , Dan Fogler (Balls of Fury) and Jay Baruchel (Million Dollar Baby).

Klye Newman also began directing a remake of Revenge of the Nerds, which was eventually cancelled by Fox after lackluster dallies. Chris Marquette starred in the abandoned film.

The release date has been changed a few times now and the rumor is March or Apirl.

The film is supposed to released in theaters sometime in March or Apirl by MGM and The Weinstein Company.
