So during this nomination, and especially in the post-Iowa caucus landscape, all of the big GOP power players from elected officials to Rush Limbaugh are really aggressively pushing for an "anyone but Huckabee" nominee, but why?

In Mike Huckabee, the right has the perfect candidate. He's just so darn likeable! I almost want him to become president. He's funny, engaging, fresh, and above all else, the man is honest. Agree with him or not, there's no doubt in my mind, and there shouldn't be in anyone else's, that he is one candidate who believes deeply in everything that he says.

Think about it for a second. A national figure from the right of the Republican Party who possesses deep personal beliefs in something. It actually does take a second to set in.

Because of his believability, authenticity, and sincerity of character, Huckabee is the perfect candidate to run against Hillary Clinton, who seems to take polls before publically stating what she believes in, and Obama, who barely has a clue at any given moment, and is usually too busy agreeing with everyone else in the debates to formulate and independent though. Further, his vague, overbroad "hope: and "change" rhetoric is wearing thin fast.

On the other side of the spectrum, a lot of powerful Republicans, including a few Bush's, are pushing Romney, who, for those who haven't noticed, is just getting creamed. The only real contest he's managed to win is Michigan, where his father was elected governor three times.

Romney's negatives among Republicans are way up, despite the perception that he is perhaps the most "electable" in the field. His GOP opponents joke that he is the one true candidate of change, because he changes his positions on issues just about as often has he changes landscaping companies.

Takeaways
  • Huckabee is an underdog in his own party
  • Mitt Romney is the choice of most powerful Republicans
  • John McCain McCain't Win

Religious fanatics do exist in America, but they have every right to exist just like anti - Religious fanatics. I am tired of left winged NAZIS in America trying to tell AMERICA that noone can see a nativity scene on their own front lawn, or even that noone can say "God bless you" without some sick and twisted atheist getting all upset and using the courts to undermine a person's liberty.

Well, you are dead wrong about John McCain for one thing - it shows your personal bias getting in the way of your judgement. You probably think McCain would not have been as good a President at Bush, which is pure fantasy. The thing is that neither he, nor any of the candidates except Fred Thompson, is a REAL Republican. Huckabee is a religious, social conservative who talks like a populist Democrat - and it is VERY revealing that this scares the party bigwigs to death, where a social liberal who is also a crony/corporate capitalist like Giuliani does not. I couldn't agree more, Robert. Especially your analysis of him and Hillary. Hillary's main weakness is that she comes off as cold and calculating. Huckabee is the only one who could capitalize on that because he is so warm and inviting that he can actually be appealing to people who disagree with him. McCain can be appealing to the middle too, but when it's a choice between him and Hillary, I think people will pick Hillary. He has a strong and tough persona and all Hillary needs to do is force out a few tears and it will look like that mean McCain is hurting innocent Hillary and all the undecided women will flock to her. (As a woman, I'm ashamed to think that, but it's true) I think the Repub establishment is for anyone but Huck because he is so openly religious. But I personally find that to be so refreshing with there being so much pandering in politics these days and with so many politicians faking religious leanings so that they'll look good.

Why not? Because the constitution guarantees freedom to worship and more than a few citizens are sick and tired of religious fanatics and Holy Wars based on ancient texts that were written in a language most do not know how to read and have been translated to Greek, Latin before being translated into languages which we do understand which leaves much margin for error. Religion does not belong in government in a land that was formed to establish non-government intervention in our private affairs and did so by destroying the spiritual beliefs of natives to the land. Let Huckabee go preach and give us a government that is non-biased to all it's citizens. Tired or Nazi America.
