The following prom trends for 2008 are based on popular prom and prom dress searches.

1. Sexy

Sexy prom dresses in 2008 include a lot of very grown up and celebrity-inspired features. One popular feature of sexy prom dresses for 2008 is the extra long slit up to the thigh.

Another popular feature in the sexy prom dress 2008 fashion race is a very, very low back.

2. Modest

On the other side of the coin is the modest prom dress. This is currently the second most popular prom dress style sought for prom 2008. The modest prom dresses are some of the cutest, most tasteful (in every way), age-appropriate prom dresses on the market.

These modest dresses range from long dresses, dresses with more than a bodice, and no plunging necklines or back lines.

The best part of many of these modest prom dresses for 2008 is that they look like very nice dresses which can be worn again. These modest prom dress designs do not scream prom. They are simply elegant.

3. Short

The third most popular prom dress style for 2008 is the short prom dress. Short prom dresses tend to have skirts that land above the knee. There are other short prom dresses that are tea length. It is much easier to dance in a short prom dress than a long, floor-length gown.

Some of these short dresses are just above knee or below the knee, and are very cute.

4. White

The next most popular style that teen girls are seeking when it comes to prom dresses? They want white dresses. White is the new black? White is a very elegant and sophisticated color, usually reserved for other important occasions from a First Communion to a wedding ceremony.

There are quite a number of great prom dresses in white for 2008. For added sophistication, there are some black and white combinations that are very chic for teen girls going to prom 2008.

5. Purple

The next most popular prom dress color is purple. The purple could be an influence from Bollywood, and from colors in fashion in general. The range of purples available in prom dresses for 2008 includes light lavenders and very rich, deep purples.

6. Pink

I dread the day my nieces look for prom dresses. My husband and FIL will just die. They will expect them to wear something with a turtleneck! Great article!

Good article. I guess our parents thought our fashions were a little different too.

When I was in high school, someone did the whole duct tape thing. It actually turned out really cool. Camo sounds a bit unusual though!

All made sense til I hit # 9 and it was downhill from there. Whew! There are some peculiar fashion trends out there. Glad my son is not yet old enough for prom or he would be fashioning a duct tape tux about now.

Good job! I teach at a public high school - you've got the trends nailed pretty well.

Enjoyed the article. I was looking at some of the prom styles this morning. There is such a variety now. I noticed a lot of sparkling accents, too. I was very surprised to see the poofs back. I like the sleek ones, that are sexy, but not too revealing. Althought I'm a long way from prom. LOL...And my senior is a boy. Still it's fun to see what the new prom dress styles look like. Enjoyed your overview.
