Smithfield Center Cut Low Calorie Bacon is a low calorie bacon product I recently came across in my grocery store. I am always looking for great low calorie products, especially bacon!

Smithfield is a well known company, so I was more than happy to try their low calorie bacon. This is lean bacon that is center cut and is pork, not faux bacon or turkey bacon.

Fat and Calories

3 slices of this lean bacon have 60 calories, so do the math and that is 20 calories per slice. This is great, especially when compared to traditional bacon. One slice can be crumbled up and added to a salad or recipe without completely making the whole dish too fatty!

3 sliced of the Smithfield Center Cut Low Calorie Bacon have 4.5 grams of fat, which is also great on a low calorie diet!

Preparation

You can cook this low calorie bacon in the oven, in the microwave, and on the stove top. I have cooked it all three ways and find the oven or the frying pan to be the best method.

If you microwave the Smithfield Center Cut Low Calorie Bacon it tends to stick to the paper towels because it is rather thin. If you have one of those bacon cookers or the microwave (which I do not) then that would probably work just fine.

Taste

The taste of this low calorie bacon is very mild, crispy, and great. I actually prefer this bacon to regular thick sliced of bacon. It is light, airy, and crispy, so if you are hoping for a heavy filling bacon, then you might be disappointed.

I find that the taste is just like regular bacon and works great in salads, recipes, sandwiches, and on its own.

I recommend pre cooking the bacon and storing it in the fridge, this way you can have ready made bacon bits perfect for any recipe.

Cost

I bought my package of Smithfield Center Cut Low Calorie Bacon at the regular grocery store. It was $5 gives or takes a few cents. I bought it because it was on a buy one get one sale and I will be waiting for that again.

I personally find $5 to be more than my budget allows for bacon. Of course, I like bacon, but if you love bacon, this may be a reasonable price to add it back into your healthy diet. You won't be disappointed.
