Forget the dog days of summer, welcome to the Dog Days of the NBA season. It's late January, and let's face it; many of the teams know where they stand in the league right now. Many
teams can count themselves out of the playoff race, and thus you have a lot of the players on those teams either just counting the games until their summer vacations or trying to pump up their stats.
The players on the teams that have established themselves as contenders may tend to cruise into the playoffs, opting to rest up for a little while in anticipation of trying to finish the season strong.
No matter what type of player you have, you are affected by the Dog Days of the NBA, and thus we have taken that into account in this edition of the fantasy basketball rankings.
Lebron James - (29.8 pts, 7.7 reb, 7.5 ast, 2.0 stl) - Once again, Lebron James is on top of the NBA as the league's most productive player. Since the last edition of the fantasy basketball rankings, Lebron's points, rebounds, and steals are all up, while his assists per game remained stagnant. Lebron is on track to reeling in an MVP award for the first time in his career.
Caron Butler - (21.7 pts, 7.0 reb, 4.4 ast, 2.3 stl) - Caron Butler continues to hold down the second spot in this edition of the rankings. His play has been truly inspiring, and as the stats show, quite productive. He was the catalyst for two straight victories over the Boston Celtics, and he looks as if he may be headed for his second straight trip to the NBA's All-Star game. One of the most interesting stats on Butler is his shooting percentages. He is shooting over 90% from the free throw line and he is hitting a surprising 49% of his field goal attempts. You can't ask much more from a guy who is keeping the Wizards a float while their star player, Gilbert Arenas, continues to heal.
