What to Expect from a Children's Beauty Pageant

There are so many perfect children at a beauty pageant that it can seem overwhelming having your child in the mix. The pageants that involve several categories and scholarship money are the best ones to become involved in because there is more potential than just a crown and sash. There
are several benefits in having your child experience being in a beauty pageant, as well as several pitfalls. The following is what you can expect from a children's beauty pageant.

The preliminaries are the qualifying round prior to the state level beauty pageant. These pageants are generally low key and inexpensive. There is no prize money involved, only a small tiara and trophy. Often, at these pageants, if there are minimal contestants in each age group, each contestant will be invited to attend the state level. This does not mean anything as far as the competition goes; the pageant people are just trying to make as much money as possible. They should not be discredited for this. Once you have qualified through the preliminaries, you will receive a packet including the information you will need for the state level. This packet will include the date and location, as well as an explanation of the different categories, and cost for entering your child into each. There should also be an entry form.

It is important to be prepared well in advance of the pageant dates. Choose which categories you will be putting your child into. There is no rule saying you must enter every category. If you attend to compete for the overall title, and the subsequent cash prize, then you must enter all categories that re judged for the overall competition. You can expect the following categories or similar categories at most beauty pageants:

Formal: This is where your daughter wears her pageant dress. A great place to get pageant dresses is at bridal salons. Many pageants are requiring that small children not have "pageant" hair and make-up. They want to see your child's natural beauty.

Casual or Daycare: This category includes clothing you would send your child to school in on school picture day, or perhaps an important gathering, such as church or a party.

got cut off, natural is no tanning, (which not all moms do, but come on, with the national stage lighting, you want to "show up" and not be blown out, you would wear make up on stage for a dance recital or play so your faces shows up, same thing, spray tanning is surface, gone in 24 hours but gives them that healthy sun kissed glow. But natural is sunday best, natural hair, glitz people call naturals sunday school pageant b/c you look like you're going to sunday school or church. Semi glitz is a little more, full glitz total package is the opposite end, hair pieces, tanning, glitzy attire, that is custom, you can ebay national pageant dress to see one, flippers all of that. The biggest mistake beginner moms make is competing in a prelim then showing up at a national and expecting it to be a go when it totally isn't. Biggest mistake, moms make is on the look. If you show up at a full glitz pageant, with only prelim level attire and training, you are pretty much done in the beginning

A little more to that based on some comments I read, I don't know what type of pageant she is talking about where they don't want the girls to wear an actual pageant dress. There are 3 different kinds of pageants, natural, semi glitz, and full glitz/total package. Nowadays, they are often times trying to have something for everyone so you see more and more big nationals with both glitz and natural competition and you can compete in one, the other, or both. Natural is just that, no rhinestones on the dress, no hair pieces or "big hair" (which we like the hair pieces, not only is it super wow super easy to, you have have a different look for each event (which is a must) ready to go, saves the kid from sitting through an up do, saves her hair from all the heat and styling, you pull it back, pin the style in place, maybe ;eave out a little in the front to comm and hide the line between the hair piece and the natural hair, and go. Natural is a flower girl type dress or sunday best dress muc

For glitz pageants you will never use a dress bought at a salon, they are one of a kind, custom you can get them new or used, in either a cupcake style skirt or southern or longer gown type for 13 and up. I am a circuit judge and national director. Generally the girls up to 10/11 wear the shorter dresses. Just wanted to clear that up. My daughter competes as well on the national level. She has won countless titles, cash, trips, you name it. The biggest mistake beginner moms make is not actually knowing how much goes into it, thinking you get a dressy flower girl dress, throw some curls in their hair and compete, glitz pageants couldn't be further from that. There is a ton more work to it than that. If you're not prepared to go full glitz/total package and you're competeing in this type of pageant, you are done before you even walk up there, unfortunately.

CONT.#9 READ FROM BOTTOM UP (did not know it cut off after so many words, sorry)... -------------------------------------- coming out Dec. 1st at Wal-Mart & it will be the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader Barbie, and very proud of her, beside her dance, Church group she is in to, pretty normal with her, she is allowed to do these things she likes as her mother does too, but SCHOOL comes first, her grades etc., all is secondary, so people with little girls can do anything, but first not forget they are KIDS first! BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL IN WHAT EVER YOU DO! My favorite line is: GOOD COMPANY CAN MAKE A GOOD GAME, BUT WHEN IT BECOMES A CHILD CRYING BECAUSE SHE LOST, STOP IT ALL, DO NOT LET THIS CHILD BEAT HERSELF UP OVER LOOSING THEY ARE ALL WINNERS, YOU DO NOT NEED A TROPHY TO SHOW THAT, YOUR WORDS AND ARMS CAN DO ALL OF THAT, AND IT IS FREE! www.myspace.com/nanna3950 stop by say hello and sign my guest book! Below is what HEATHER MICHELLE WRITTEN... ABOUT FORMAL WEAR! Forma

CONT.#8 READ FROM BOTTOM UP (did not know it cut off after so many words, sorry)... ------------------------------------------ and the poor little girl will be forced into doing it all! personally call that abuse in a different way.... OK, am done, I am long winded and I am sure you are all tired of reading this, but do it because it is fun, not to make a Robot out of your child, let them be kids while they are kids, they fly from home soon enough and you will miss it all if you spend all your time on pageants! There really is NO career in Pageants, think about it! LET THEM BE BABIES, LET THEM BE KIDS, LET THEM BE TEENAGERS, LET THEM BE THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE "FIRST"...ecause before you blink they are gone and having a family of their own, ENJOY IT NOW BEFORE THEY DO FLY AWAY! I have 8-grandchildren, ALL busy in sports the Boys are, and one granddaughter is a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader (Jr. cheerleader that is, she is only 8 yrs old), also you will see her pic on the Barbie Box

CONT.#7 READ FROM BOTTOM UP (did not know it cut off after so many words, sorry)... ------------------------------------------ and hair-do on her, and I know that her hair is not that long at 24 months old, but none the less my daughter went into it as her shy self she is and it is totally 100% up to her daughter to do what is needed, she only holds her hand and walks her and she does all the other work, the other lady was coaching her child at ever step, and you know what... my granddaughter WON, NOT the one all dressed up like a teenager at 24 months, and her mom was a bit upset... But, my daughter told me that was not all of it, her SON was in it too, and he was older about 6 yrs old, and the same lady was doing a point and direct behind the judges head and my daughter felt so bad for this little boy as he looked like a Robot up there an only doing things on command! Now, this is too much if you ask me! Pretty soon that little boy is NOT going to want to do this kind of stuff, a

CONT.#6 READ FROM BOTTOM UP (did not know it cut off after so many words, sorry)... ------------------------------------------ My granddaughter only has ONE dress and my daughter wanted her to get more use out of it before she out grew it as they ALL do at that age, and one lady come up and asked my daughter, "IS SHE GOING TO WEAR THAT DRESS" talking about my granddaughter, my daughter told her yes, she said well I brought 2-Sunday Best, and 1-Pageant dress, but my daughter does better in her Sunday Best! Now tell me what 24 month old knows the difference between Sunday best or a Pageant dress? I know mine can't, can yours? I don't think hers could either I think that was said because she was a little worried and thought if her daughter doesn't win, they will blame it on the dress, yes that is it! My daughter told me, Mama this little girl had the PAGEANT HAIR, HE PAGEANT MAKEUP, THE WHOLE WORKS! She said this was such a Beautiful little baby, and her mothers put all that makeup

CONT.#5 READ FROM BOTTOM UP (did not know it cut off after so many words, sorry)... ------------------------------------------ But, what this lady has written about NO MAKE UP AND HAIR is how I feel and my daughter feels and it should be a RULE! "HEATHER MICHELLE" Could not have said it better... See below where I copied and pasted her paragraph about "FORMAL" put that into the rules, and it should be for age groups up to 10-12 yrs old.. Let their real Beauty shine, that is what counts not made up like a 2yr old whipped into a 16 yr old, and that pic I saw of some of these children where people use a computer to take every flaw out and make you look like you have fake eyes, face hair teeth etc. that is scary... My granddaughter did a Toys for Tots (marine corps toy fund) and that is the one my daughter wanted to really do because it was giving back to the kids and she has lived the life of the Marine Corps. daughter so it was a special thing for her and her daddy. My granddaughter
