As I think and consider Black history in America today....in many ways I am saddened. Our country as a whole has not done near enough to educate and inspire our citizens about the wealth of information and accomplishments by Black Americans. I personally believe this is because the seat of power in our country rest upon individuals who do not see or feel Black history is indeed a part of American history or it's simply not important. Yea, I think it's great to have a month "unofficially" dedicated to Black history. (There's no government law or legislation that says February is legally Black history month). However, when you really look at this what does it really say? "Okay, we're not gonna teach much of anything in our history books about Black history but we'll pick one month out of the year to discuss Black history to suffice everyone." Consider how much blood, sweat and tears- (and I mean literally), the Black American has given for this country. Frankly, there is no logical reason why Black history isn't a enormous part of our American history educational curriculum.
