Lily Allen's pregnancy was only announced last month, and now she and partner Ed Simon must cope with the news of her miscarriage. Her spokesman stated, "We can confirm that Lily Allen has suffered a miscarriage. She and her partner Ed Simons will be making no further comment and we ask that their privacy be respected during this difficult time."

Both are musicians in the public eye who have been dating for approximately three months and were planning to move in together. The Sun reported the 22-year-old singer was "distraught" upon losing her child after she and 37-year-old Chemical Brothers musician returned from a getaway in the Maldives on January 16th.

Allen and Simons met back in September of 2007, when she attended one of his shows, and have been dating steadily since. This would have been the first child for both. Oddly, this has not been Allen's first brush with medical problems. In November 2007, BBC News reported she was diagnosed with a heart murmur and lost twenty pounds in a little over a month.

The pregnancy came as a shock for the singer and fans alike, as Lily Allen has been quite a controversial figure in the tabloids. The New Zealand Herald mentions her not-so-flattering remarks about President Bush and Amy Winehouse at the 2007 V Festival. Her U.S. visa was revoked after being detained in an L.A. airport and questioned about assault on a British photographer (she later fired her music company, blaming them for the ordeal). It is obvious that Allen has not been hesitant to communicate her love of rebellion to the public.

However, many say the pregnancy would have been the beginning of a new life for Allen. She is quoted as saying, "I've looked forward to being stable my whole life. My parents are amazing, but it has been a whirlwind upbringing....I have got my eye on the prize, which is having kids and getting married and cooking dinner and doing homework with my children."

NME.com reports that Allen turned down a launch of maternity wear, claiming that she's "not the best example" and was "a bit young" to be having a baby.
