The Metropolitan Museum of Art known for short as the Met. Founded in 1872 and is one of the world’s largest and most important museums of art. Being one of the largest the permanent collection contains more than two million works of art from around the world. The collection's holdings range from wonders of classical art like those represented in its Greek and Cypriot galleries, to paintings and sculptures from almost all the European masters, to an massive collection of American art. Their collection of Greek and Roman art itself alone contains more than 50,000 works dated through A.D. 312. The collection also contains holdings of Egyptian, Africian, Asian, Oceanic, Middle Eastern, Byzantine and Islamic. 

The Eqyptian exhibit holds more than 36,000 pieces in it. The most popular pieces is the Temple of Dendur which is located with in the Sackler Wing of the museum. In addition, the Department of Arms and Armor displays a collection of antique weapons and armor from around the world. This collection the only one of it’s kind, and is considered on of the most popular in the museum with armorary made from around the world and many of the pieces made for kings and queens of the past. This collection includes armor that belonged to King Henry the II of France; and Ferdinand I of Germany. You can walk through the Moon Gate into the peacefulness of a Chinesese Garden or enjoy the Met's Asian department holds a collection of art that can be described as the most comprehensive in the West. The collection itself dates back a little bit after the founding of the museum. Today there is an entire wing of the museum is dedicated to the Asian collection.
