People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

Their shock tactics make news headlines. The president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group's overall goal as "total animal liberation." No seeing eye dogs; no service animals; no wool, no meat, milk or eggs. No hunting, fishing or zoos. The group has targeted farmers for "cruelty" - they've accused many of deceptive practices. They target children and make no apologies: "Our campaigns are always geared towards children, and they always will be." These campaigns are the likes of telling kids their mothers kill animals and that a hamburger is child abuse and is akin to giving them weedkiller. PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases.

People send millions of dollars per year thinking they are helping animals. PETA vegetarian campaign coordinator Bruce Friedrich told an animal rights convention in 2001 that "blowing stuff up and smashing windows" is "a great way to bring about animal liberation." Over $70,000 has been paid to a domestic terrorist convicted arsonist who is still on their payroll.

Takeaways
  • Many people still think PeTA is about saving bunnies and freeing chickens from cages.
  • PeTA has a record of killing thousands of pets...all with tax free dollars.
  • 90.7% of the pets in 2005 PeTA took in were killed.
Did You Know?
PETA published a leaflet called "Animal Liberation Front: the Army of the Kind." The ALF is a domestic terrorist organization according to the FBI with a conservative estimate of more than $43 million in damages in the USA alone. In another pamphlet, "Activism and the Law," PETA openly offers advice on "burning a laboratory building."

I wonder what all the celebrities who support PETA would think about them illegally euthanizing animals and claiming they're finding homes for them. This organization would fold in a New York minute if they saw the truth and withdrew financial patronage since the bulk of their money comes from celebrity donors.

Their stand against cruelty depends on the notion of cruelty. Shouldn't they hold to the same standard? If so why are their employees facing CRUELTY CHARGES - PeTA is footing the legal bill. How many pets would that spay/neuter? I do not agree with trial by public posting - it's too easy for misinformation to come in. PeTA has admitted doing anything for publicity; I don't trust such sources myself.

While I don't necessarily agree with PETA's stand on eating meat and such, their stand against animal cruelty is admirable. Read the current article I just published about a case coming to court very soon.

My hope is that we can have tolerance for people's opinions and views and acknowledge what we have in common, love of animals in general. I think it's great that there is a place where people can voice their opinion and recieve feedback and agree to disagreee without resorting to insults. I commend those that voice their feedback and end their opinion professionaly.

What PeTA did in Ahoskie is just the tip of the iceberg. People talk about how PeTA helped animals in Katrina, they saved 32, relocated to other agencies about 300 and united 5 animals back with their family. This is from PeTAs own press release. A poor showing for a 29 million a year animal group. Ahoskie will break PeTAs back and they are scared to face a jury, why else would they postpone a trial for well over a year? The reason if loss of their 501(C) and that would cost them 3 million a year. Ingrid Newkirk said after Ahoskie "the kindest gift you can give an unwanted dog or cat is euthanasia", if your a PeTA supporter why do you not write PeTA and ask if it is true, for she surely said it and last year PeTA killed 90.7% of every animal the took in, I guess Ingrid likes to kill. This article is not full of lies and half truths as was said by another poster, do the research yourself if you doubt it.

PETA is a good group and they would NEVER do anything wrong. They exist to help animals and that is what they do. No one has any reason to complain, and if you do, then you're clearly trying to ruin the reputation of the PETA and that makes you a horrible person. PETA is very good and people should support them.

May I suggest to the writer of this article that they spend a couple of hours watching and listening to Peta undercover investigative videos that illuminate the horrendous and extensive suffering of animals then write a second article..if you can.

PETA does good work to help animals. People should realize that animals are not on this earth to serve our purposes. They are fellow living creatures that desire their freedom just like we do, and they have a right to that freedom as well. Leave animals alone, and PETA will leave you alone.

PETA has done more for animals than anyone will ever know. The Center for Consumer Freedom is financed by business concerns that make money from abusing animals. That includes factory farms, dairies, and fur farms. These enterprises have large advertising budgets and have lied to the public for decades. GO PETA!

Woah. The PETA is much different than I thought they would be. I mean people bad mouth people for killing 1 animal like Troy Gentry. But this is outrageous!
