I used to think that crisp breads were bland and fairly tasteless, apart from the crunchy texture. But other than that, I rarely came across a good quality crisp bread that I could snack on.

Ryvita is a popular British company that produces an assortment of tasty crisp breads that are full of whole grains and natural goodness. The original variety belongs to the "tastes like cardboard" category. But the Dark Rye Whole Grain Crisp bread by Ryvita is a much tastier crisp bread that is more appealing and satisfying. I was delighted to come across some familiar treats from the UK such as Jelly Babies, Heinz Baked Beans and Dark Rye Whole Grain Crisp bread by Ryvita on a recent trip to Raley's. The pack of Ryvita cost just $1.15 for the 250g (8oz) pack. This is a very good price for an imported British food item.

Ingredients

Many manufactured "healthy" snacks have such a long list of ingredients that you begin to wonder just where any of the goodness is in the product. But with Dark Rye Whole Grain Crisp bread by Ryvita there are just two ingredients, whole grain rye flour and salt.

Nutrition

Each 10g (1 slice) serving contains 35 calories, no fat, 40mg of sodium, 8g of carbohydrates, 2g of dietary fibre and 1g of protein. Dark Rye Whole Grain Crisp bread by Ryvita is an ideal snack for people who are watching their calorie or fat intake, as it is very low in calories and there is no fat. There is just a small amount of sodium in every serving and 2g of fibre or 8% of the daily recommendation.

Taste

Dark Rye Whole Grain Crisp bread by Ryvita has a crunchy texture and a mild flavour. It tastes better if you add further ingredients to it.

Allergen Warning

This product has been manufactured in a plant that handles sesame seeds and soya products. If you are allergic to any of these ingredients, you would do well to steer clear of this product.

Serving Suggestions

Dark Rye Whole Grain Crisp bread by Ryvita is such a versatile snack that can be eaten on its own, spread with low fat cottage cheese or butter or cream cheese, along with roasted vegetables.

I had to chuckle about the tastes like cardboard comment. I've experienced that taste. Ha.
