Treatment for "Heat Stroke" : Beware This Can Happen to You

Common sense will be a big factor and a major part in our summer. Summer is almost over now and I wished I knew more about this, before my recent trip to the State Fair with my mother. She is 78 years old and the outside temperature was just 82 degrees. It wasn't really bad out, only if you stood to long in the sun. But my mother has had this heat stroke before at a picnic and also after she was on a parade in her town. I was not there for that one. I was not sure what to do till it hit her, and this was very scary. Seems she got overheated and she never told me. Just asked can we sit down a minute, so we did.

A nice lady on moms other side asked her if she was ok, she turned to me and started to say and she fell on me, just passed out, her eyes rolled back in her head and out see went and was breathing very rasping breaths. She was drinking a lot of water a matter of fact that's all she drinks. I found out this lady was a nurse and she noticed her pale skin and a clammy cool feeling to it. So she went and called the Red Cross at the Fair. I in the mean time was praying and applying water to her neck and forehead. That is all I knew at the time, then she finally came to as the Red Cross got there to check her pulse and blood pressure. They were cooling her down and put her on a stretcher and took her back to the Red Cross building. They had her lay down and they kept checking on her, she said her legs were weak and she was sleepy. We let her rest but when she was ok I had them take us to my Van and I drove home and put her to bed. It seems after a person gets this heat stroke that it is easier and easier to get. Plus her age and all, even though she drinks plenty of water and Gatorade, this still happened to her. She is ok for now but she has to be very careful and stay out of the heat and sun.
