It is Time to Get Those Hands and Fingers Messy!

Most kids love to paint and although there are quite a few paint options out there at stores, there is nothing quite like homemade paint. With homemade paint...not only is your child going to express their creativity through the painting medium but they also have the benefit of actually helping in the creation of their paint! It is what I call total immersion in an activity! You will find below lots of homemade paint recipes, most of the items are probably in your kitchen right now. So lets get measuring, mixing and letting the painting begin!!

FLUFFY SOAP PAINT
-Electric mix, eggbeater, or wire whisk
-1 cup grated Ivory soap(half a 4 1/2 ounce bar)
-1/2 cup cold water
-Bowl
-Food coloring(optional)

Beat or whisk the soap and water together in a bowl until the mixture is stiff and thick. If you like, add food coloring to tint the paint.

MILK PAINT
-2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk
-Small bowl
-Warm water
-Food coloring

Measure the dry milk into the bowl. Add enough warm water to make a thick paste. Add a few drops of food coloring and stir the mixture until it's smooth. Cover the paint and refrigerate it for storage.

CRYSTAL PAINT
-1 cup Epsom salts
-1/2 cup water
-Bowl
-Small containers or Styrofoam egg carton
-Food coloring or liquid tempera paint

Combine the salts and water in a bowl. Pour the mixture into the containers. Add a few drops of food coloring or liquid tempera paint to each container, a different color for each. Mix the paint well.

FLOUR FINGER PAINT
-1 cup flour
-2 tablespoons salt
-Saucepan
-1 1/2 cups cold water
-Wire whisk or eggbeater
-1 1/4 cups hot water
-Food coloring or powdered tempera paint

Mix the flour and salt in the saucepan. Beat in the cold water until the mixture is smooth. Mix in the hot water and boil the mixture until it's thick, then beat it again until it's smooth. Tint the paint however you like with food coloring or powdered tempera paint. Cover the paint and refrigerate it for storage.

CORN SYRUP PAINT
-4 tablespoons corn syrup
-1 1/2 teaspoons liquid dish soap
-Small container
-Liquid tempera paint or food coloring
