Thanks Elena and Jamie. Elena, guess what? My kids liked learning about him so much last week that in "special class" this upcoming week, they want to learn more. LOL Special class is what we call the time during home school that the kids get to pick what they learn each day. It could be anything from how candy is made to how the Egyptian pyramids were constructed. It's basically whatever interests them at the time. So, hey, I say it's never too late. There's nothing wrong with some unscheduled learning. :-)

Sorry I read this too late for this year-but now I know what to do with my granddaughters for next year! This year my grandchildren were at my house and my 7 yr old read her (3rd grade level-says her proud Mimi) Martin LUFER King library book to me. No, that's not a typo-that's they way she pronounces it-but she can recite the story of where he was born and what he did-so at least she has the important stuff down!

Thanks you three. Enjoy! LOL Shamontiel. I always thought that to be odd as well. Oh well, like you said, at least we can still enjoy this wonderful holiday. My kids are learning more about Dr. King all week. They already know alot, but I like them to have a refresher every now and then and try to also add new stuff. :-)

These are great resources. My daughter had to be out last Fri, and when I kept telling her she had Mon off for MLK day, she kept saying "I don't get that." I'll definitely have to look up some of these worksheets, so she "gets" it!

I always wondered why MLK's birthday was never the same day as the National Holiday. When I went to the DuSable Museum yesterday, I finally got my answer. Congress passed it in 1983, but President Ronald Reagan would not sign it into law until it was changed to a different day than 1/15 because they felt it was too close to Christmas and New Year's Day. *rolling my eyes* Like one week makes all the difference. Whatever! I'm just glad to have the day and definitely enjoyed celebrating it productively.
