Trailer Report No. 2: The Eye and Over Her Dead Body

The Eye - opening Feb. 1
Jessica Alba stars as a blind woman who gains the gift of sight through an eye donation. Just as she starts to become comfortable in the sighted world, she starts to see crazy things. Ghosts appear and people die in front of her eyes.

The Eye has a great tagline ("How can you believe your eyes when they're not yours?"), but the trailer reveals that The Eye is trying way too hard to throw scare after scare at you. If you like scary movies, you will enjoy The Eye, but don't expect a classic.

Over Her Dead Body - opening Feb. 1
Eva Longoria Parker (Desperate Housewives) plays a woman who is killed by an ice sculpture just before her wedding. After the tragedy, her fiancé (Paul Rudd) tries to contact her through a psychic (Lake Bell). Of course, they start a romance.

The vengeful Eva comes back as a ghost whom only Lake can see, and she does her best to sabotage the new relationship.

The trailer gives away too much. There are some good sight gags involving Eva as a ghost. Unfortunately, they won't be funny in the movie because we've seen them in the trailer.

Eva's character seems a lot like her Gabrielle Solis character on Housewives, which plays to her comedic strengths but doesn't let her stretch as an actress. Over Her Dead Body looks like a fun movie, but I wish the trailer was only half as long.

Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who - opening March 14
This trailer for the computer-animated Horton Hears A Who looks gorgeous, as a chain reaction in nature sends the residents of microscopic Who-ville into the neighborhood of a bored, friendly elephant named Horton. As good as the movie looks visually, the trailer wasn't very funny at all, despite the vocal talents of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell.

I wasn't a big fan of the live-action Cat in the Hat movie, but maybe Horton is better. We don't know yet, because the trailer is a dud.
