How to Make Cheap Plastic Blinds Look Expensive

Cheap plastic and cheap metal blinds are one of the quickest ways to make your home look, well, for lack of a better word, cheap. While there is nothing wrong with cheap plastic blinds, you can update blinds and make them look more expensive in a few simple steps.

So, take down those cheap plastic blinds hand then outside, and start transforming an updating them into great looking blinds.

To Update Cheap Plastic Blinds You Will Need:

Spray Paint (to be discussed)

Soap

Warm Water

Dry Rags

Newspaper

Spray on Primer

To get started you want to take your blinds apart. This does take little time, but can be easily accomplished by following the specific instruction that came with your plastic blinds.

Tip: You can pain the blinds while they are together, but this will also paint the rope that holds it together, so this is up to you. Thick applications of spray paint may hamper your blinds from opening and closing easily, so keep this in mind.

Now, clean the blinds, you do not want any dust or dirt on them. This will show once the plastic blinds have been painted.

Lay our each slat of the blinds on some newspaper outside. Spray on a coat of spray primer. Kilz is a great brand for this.

Once this dries repeat ton the back side.

You are now ready to paint. Look for products like a hammered metal spray paint in silver, bronze, or even dark brown colors.

The "hammered" metal in this paint texture will add instant richness to the plain flat metal or plastic blinds.

You can also simple [paint each last out to look lie wood. To do this use a primer that is tinted a light brown.

Now, apply a thin coat of brown paint on the top of the land. You can mix this with 1/3 part gaze.

Drag a wood grain rubber tool across the metal or Platic blinds to create the look of wood. Let this dry and repeat on the other side.

If you like the look of wood shabby chic blinds that are white, then try painting the blinds white with a matte primer. Now, apply a slightly creamy white paint on top and repeat the wood step. This will give the look of painted white wood on the blinds.

Reassemble and hang the blinds.
